A Walk around Kumano Shrine, Chuo Park, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (Part 3) / 熊野神社、中央公園と都庁の散歩 （パート３）

Kumano Shrine is located on one corner of Chuo Park, so my wanderings took me further into the park itself.  Here is one of the residents I came across.  But you know what I really love about these large municipal parks, its discovering the different statues and monuments within.

熊野神社が中央公園の一角にあるので、もちろん次探索するのは園内です。この猫、もしかして公園の住民かも。でも僕がこういう大きい公園散歩の楽しみの一つは園内にある彫刻を見つける事です。

At Chuo Park there are two waterfalls, this one is called the Shiroito Waterfall.

中央公園に滝が二つあります。こっちは白糸の滝。

On the opposite side of the Shiroito Waterfall is the Shinjuku Niagara Falls.

白糸の滝の反対側にもう一つの滝があります、これは新宿のナイアガラの滝！

Its hard to tell from this picture, but you can see the top of the Yawaragi statue.

この写真でちょっと見にくいの思いますが、やわらぎの彫刻が見えます。

This is the Fujimidai Observation Spot which was closed due to damages suffered from the 3/11 quake last year.

これは富士見台です。昨年の東日本大震災でこの建物も壊れましたので、現在は登れません。

Peace Bells / 平和の鐘

This was my favorite sculpture in Chuo Park.  Statue of Kuon (and relates to a samurai called Dokan Ota).

これが僕が一番気に入りの彫刻「久遠の像」、太田道灌に関するものなんですが、僕にとってちょっと分かりづらい。

Continuing my wanderings around Kumano Shrine in Shinjuku.  A sign pointing the way to another point of interest, the Oota Nanpo no Mizubachi.

新宿にある熊野神社の探索がまだ続いてます。

What makes these Koma Inu interesting is the fact that the are completely solid.

本殿裏の末社大鳥三社にある狛犬で、腹の下がくりぬきになっていない珍しいものです。享保１２年(1727)「角筈村上野百姓店児講中」により寄進されたものです。

I figured its about time that I return to some of my neighborhood walks posts.  I haven't been neglecting them on purpose.  A couple of weeks ago I was under the weather.  The cold just wouldn't go away, so I finally went to the hospital and discovered that it wasn't a cold after all, I was suffering from bronchitis!  Ugh.  I was prescribed some antibiotics and a few other meds.  Then work got really busy.  Then my cough returned.  Went to another clinic (my usual place was closed for the Obon holidays).  Fortunately it wasn't the return of bronchitis but I was prescribed some other meds and it seems to have taken care of the problem.

I've been curious about the Kumano Shrine since riding the bus from Shibuya to Shinjuku and discovering that it was one of the stops along the way.  Finally, on a recent day off I decided to check it out.

そろそろ散歩のネタに戻ろうと思いまして。わざとさぼってるわけじゃなかった。二週間前ちょっと風邪をひいちゃって中々治れなかった。咳がひど過ぎて病院に行ったら、風邪ではないと言われた。気管支炎に診断された。抗生物質と咳止めの薬やらを出してくれて。良くなったが、その後仕事が忙しくなって。それでまた咳が戻って。もしかして気管支炎再発？また病院に行ったら、お盆休みで１０日間休診だった。仕方なく別のクリニックに行って、凄い時間を待たされ、でも良かった事に気管支炎の再発ではなかった。また別の薬を出してくれて、それでやっと治った。

以前はバスで渋谷から新宿に行って、途中で熊野神社前の停車があるの気付き、いつかその神社を探索してみようかなと思った。ちょっと前の休日にやっと行けました。

This shrine is part of the Shinjuku Mini Museum (I discovered the sign when I went there).

この神社は新宿ミニ博物館になってるのをサインを見て気付いた。

The first point of interest I came across was the mikoshi gura (portable shrine warehouse).

最初に気になってたのは神輿倉。

My apologies, but I am not going to translate what the sign says.

Cultural assets found inside the main shrine are the Shichinin Yakusha Zu Ema (large prayer board featuring 7 Kabuki actors) drawn by a couple of up and coming Kabuki actors in 1773 (shown on the right) and the Shiki sanban Hounougaku (I'm not even going to try to explain).
