Ramen [Kinden Maru] /

A return to the ramen shop series.  I haven't been to a new ramen shop in quite a while but I remembered this one which I haven't featured on my blog yet.  The name of the place is Kinden Maru. I had been meaning to go here for quite a while because one of the ramens on the menu caught my eye.  You can see it above.  The ramen listed on the bottom right of the sign.  Something called GBC.  The shop is located in Shibuya inside Center Street.  I had passed by this place so many times but never found the time to actually go and eat there...until a year and half ago!  Yep, I'm a bit late in featuring this ramen shop as I went sometime in February of last year!  Have you been trying to figure out what the GBC stands for?  It is there Garlic Butter Cheese ramen!  Two of my favorite ingredients - garlic and cheese.  I don't mind the butter.  Although the ramen was delicious, I don' t think I will be going back to this shop in the near future.  I don't know if its because the building was old but when you see a mouse running around the floor, chances are there are more rodents around as well.  But I believe this is a chain shop so maybe I will just look for another location if I get the craving to have a bowl of GBC!
A nice blend of garlic, butter and cheese!  It matches the soup.  Great for fans of garlic and cheese!  The butter makes the broth a bit creamy.  Very delicious.  They shop needs to take care of their rodent problem though.
Bon Appetit!

Spaghetti Store [Carbo] /

Back to introducing various restaurants. About a month ago, my wife and I along with our friends Yukio and Reiko went on the Asakusa Seven Lucky Gods of Fortune Pilgrimage.  As the walk takes about 4 hours we had to stop somewhere for lunch. We decided on this very popular pasta restaurant called Carbo, most likely because its most famous dish is the Carbonara. The sign on the building shows it to be a "Spaghetti Store". The building looks modern from the outside, has a homey atmosphere inside and the way you order is pretty retro. You purchase a ticket outside the building. There are only four different pastas to choose from on the regular menu plus a daily special. The carbonara, the nepolitan, the mikado, and the standard meat sauce.

It really does say "Spaghetti Store" on the sign above the name Carbo.

The menu.  You can choose from small, medium, or large as well.

Beer with pasta is always a good thing.

I ordered the dish the restaurant is named for.  Probably the best carbonara I've had. Very delicious.

Reiko ordered the Napolitan.

My wife ordered the Mikado - a Japanese style pasta, flavored with a bit of soy sauce.

Yukio chose the monthly special - pasta with clams and cabbage and flavored with plum.

Bon Appetit!

A Walk around Tokyo University and Ueno Park (Part 2) /

After eating at the student dining hall at the University of Tokyo, we headed out to Ueno Park to go to Toshogu.  Lunch did remind me of my University days!  I miss having a "meal card"!  Anyway, time to walk off the calories from lunch.

Yep, it was only a hop, skip and jump away to Shinobazu Pond in Ueno Park.  In the distance is the shrine to Benzaiten. We decided to go there first before going to Toshogu.

I thought this was the main shrine of Toshogu at Ueno. Only later did I discover that this is just a gate. The main shrine is behind the gate!

Our next stop was going to be Nezu Jinja but we decided to check out one more of the large temples located within Ueno Park.
