Tokyo Flashback : Tokyo Sakurashinmachi Nebuta Festival (Part 1) / 東京フラッシュバック：東京桜新町ねぶた祭り （パート１）

On September 12, 2015, a Saturday, I met with my friend's wife Reiko in Sakura-shinmachi. We both had the day off but our spouses were working and would join us later. Later this evening, the Tokyo Nebuta Festival will take place. Reiko and I decided to wander around the area while in the day. 

２０１５年９月１２日、土曜日。東京の桜新町に東京ねぶた祭りが開催するため、僕と友人の妻が昼間で桜新町に会う約束をした。お互いのパートナーが仕事であとから合流する予定。私たちは休みだったので桜新町を探索することにした。

Sakura-shinmachi is home to the Hasegawa Machiko Museum, the creator of one of Japan's longest running comic strips and anime series titled Sazae-san. 

桜新町に長谷川町子美術館もあり、あちこちにサザエさんと彼女の家族が居る。

Not far from the station we were greeted by Katsuo and his sister Wakame.

駅の近くに磯野カツオと妹のワカメちゃんが歓迎してくれる。

We then went to Sakura Jingu Shrine.

最初に探索したのは桜神宮。

It was a festive atmosphere so we bought some snacks and beer too. 

結構賑やかな雰囲気でちょっとしたおつまみとビールを買った。

Reiko and I shared some garlic shrimp. 

令ちゃんとガーリックシュリンプをシェアしました。

I spotted Katsuo and Tara at this shop. 

カツオ君とタラちゃんをこの店で発見しました。

We checked out a few of the mini Nebuta floats. 

ミニねぶたいろいろ見ました。

Look, it's Sazae-san and her husband Masuo and their son Tara-chan.

おう、見て！サザエさんと旦那のマスオと息子のタラちゃん。

Here is the whole family in front of the Hasegawa Machiko Museum.

We also explored the Sakura-shinmachi 1-chome Green Space, more commonly known as the Sazae-san Park. 

桜新町一丁目緑地も探索しました。通称名はサザエさん公園。

またおやつの時間になりました。

We enjoyed some sparkling wine.

スパークリングワインを飲みました。

And ate some takoyaki.

たこ焼きも食べた。

There was a Sazae-san cafe and pancake shop called [Lien de Sazaesan] which recently opened. I read that it closed on September 22, 2020. 

最近開店したサザエさんのカフェ「リアン・ドゥ・サザエさん」。ネットで調べたところ２０２０年９月２２日で閉店したそうです。

Sazae-san and her husband Masuo were in Sakura-shinmachi that day. 

サザエさんとマスオ君二人がその日に桜新町に居ました。

I even had my picture taken with Namihei Isono. 

磯野家のお父さん波平さんと一緒に写真を撮ってもらった。

I bought a snack at Lien de Sazaesan.

リアン・ドゥ・サザエさんで波平のスナック買いましたよ。

Tokyo Flashback : Hawaiian restaurant [Aloha Baby] / 東京フラッシュバック：ハワイアンレストラン「アロハベイビー」

Everybody loves food posts. Well, everybody I know loves food posts. So back when I was living in Tokyo and I was out for a walk, I came across a new restaurant in my neighborhood. A Hawaiian place called [Aloha Baby]. It's actually a ten to fifteen minute walk from our apartment and is located along the Shoinjinja Mae Shotengai.

みんなが食べ物のネタが好き。ま、自分が知ってる人たち、みんな食べ物ネタが好き。東京で住んでたころ、ある日散歩に出かけたら、松陰神社前の商店街に気になる店を発見。ハワイアンレストランの「アロハベイビー」。

The sign on the building makes it look like an old diner but the interior is new and spiffy. 

サンエスの看板を見ると昔の食堂と想われる。でも店内はとっても綺麗。

I was checking out the menu trying to decide what I wanted to order for lunch.

メニューを見て、ランチでなに食べようか迷ってた。

As I said, beautiful interior.

言った通り素敵な内装。

Did you notice the map of Hawaii on the wall.

壁にハワイの地図があるの気づきましたか？

I opted for the teriyaki spam and egg plate. The price was 800 yen (tax included).

選んだのは照焼スパムエッグプレート。メニューに”甘辛の照焼ソースで焼いたスパムはゴハンにピッタリ。目玉焼きと共に。”

Tokyo Flashback : A Walk around Shiodome (Part 2) / 東京フラッシュバック：汐留の散歩（パート２）

And now for part 2 of our adventure walking around Shiodome. After lunch, we had time to explore more of the area.

さて、汐留散歩の続き。ランチを食べ終わって、まだ汐留で探索する場所が結構ありました。

We spotted the unofficial mascot of Chiba Prefecture's Funabashi called Funnasyi.

千葉県船橋の非公認マスカットふなっしーがいました。

A sunflower clock. 

ひまわりの時計。

I'm not sure who that's supposed to be.

誰の銅像が分からん。

A gate to the "Shoten Shrine", "Shoten" being a popular television show featuring many rakugo story tellers. 

笑点神社の鳥居。毎週見てた番組だな。

Pyonkichi T-shirts in the shotengai. 

ぴょうんきちのＴシャーツが商店街でずらりと飾ってある。

A giant clock that looks like it came out of the world of Studio Ghibli. That's because it was designed by Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli!! It is Hayao Miyazaki's NTV clock.

スタジオジブリから生まれたような巨大時計。まさに宮崎駿デザインの日テレ大時計でした。

We also stumbled onto an [Evangelion] exhibition. 

この日に「エヴァンゲリオン」の展示会もやってたみたい。

As we continued to explore the area around Shiodome, we came across the Old Shimbashi Station Building. 

汐留の探索を続いたら、面白い場所を発見した。旧新橋停車場。ここが駅舎玄関遺稿。

We stumbled upon the Shimbashi Station Railway History Exhibition Hall as well. 

鉄道歴史展示室にも遭遇。

We came back to Hayao Miyazaki's NTV Clock. 

また宮崎駿の日テレ大時計に戻りました。

The clock moves only five times a day. We stayed around to watch it move and although I did take a video clip of it, the clip exceeded the maximum that this blog site can manage. 

時計は１日５回しか動かないので、見逃したら数時間待ちになる。動いてるところ動画で取りましたが、このブログがその動画の重さに対応出来なかった。

I made a couple of purchases while we were still in Shiodome. 

自分汐留で購入した物。

As we made it back home, I modeled the Pyonkichi T-shirt I bought. 

うちに戻ったら、僕が買ったぴょんきちのＴシャーツを着てみた。

We bought Gorilla bread, also featured on the television show [Dokonjo Gaeru] (The Gutsy Frog). 

ど根性ガエルの実写版ドラマに出てくるゴリラパンも買いました。

Eating the bread ended our adventure for the day. 

ゴリラパンを食べて、汐留の散歩が終了致しました。
