Kyushu Festival at Yoyogi Park 2014 /

A couple of weeks after the Hokkaido Festival, we once again found ourselves at Yoyogi Park.  This time the weather was on our side and we hung out with our friends the Suganumata Family.  We were here for the Kyushu Festival.

It wasn't that crowded and we already made our own space away from the these tables.
What to eat at this festival?
What might this soup and these skewers be?

Crab Fishcake Skewer /
Mizutaki /
Shochu /
Negiyaki /
Motsuni (tripe soup) /
Rice bowl with salmon and pollack roe and takana /
Okay, what is so Kyushu about western style barbecue?  I don't know but I couldn't pass it up.  Real Texas barbecue in Tokyo!

Served with potato chips too!  So American.  Steak and bacon.
Sweet potato sticks /
Fukuoka Prefecture craft beers from K's Brewing Company.  On the left is Cabos and Honey.  On the right is Amaou Oatmeal Black.

Kumamoto Prefecture's popular mascot Kumamon did a little dance number on stage.
And back to more food with some steamed oysters.

No more oysters.

Father and daughter relaxing after eating all that food.
And so another day was spent eating and drinking and just having a good time.  Until the next food festival.

Shibuya Niku Yokocho /

Yukio finished his test and joined us in Shibuya.  It was right about time for dinner and we chose to check out a place called [Shibuya Niku Yokocho].  This would translate to "Shibuya Meat Alley".  The second floor of a building is entirely devoted to meat!  It's a meat cuisine food court featuring over 10 different restaurants.

We were a bit early so not all the restaurants inside were open for business yet.

As you can see, it wasn't quite crowded yet either.  We decided on a place called [Yoshio] who's specialty is Sendai beef tongue.
Starting off simple with edamame and fresh tomatoes.
Beef Tongue /
More beef tongue, along with a skewered cherry tomatoes wrapped in bacon and shiitake mushrooms.
Roasted garlic /

Yukio was not pleased with the quality of the meat so after we finished our meal here, we went to one of the other restaurants inside this food court.  We chose a place called the Brazil Sakaba [Devil].

The menu at Devil.  This is a Brazilian place so of course they had churasco on their menu.  Delicious!

Linguaca and Alcatra /
Potato Salad /
The meat dishes were so delicious, we ordered the same thing twice!

I usually like my pineapples fresh but I always make an exception for abacaxi. This is a churasco grilled pineapple with cinnamon.  It is so delicious!!

Yukio checking out the menu.   However, we ended our evening with the abacaxi.

Hokkaido Festival in Yoyogi Park 2014 / 北海道フェアin代々木 2014

I've been falling behind on my food festival posts so lets back up to October.  What do you do when the weather calls for a typhoon?  You go to Yoyogi Park for the Hokkaido Fair!

Not a lot of people out walking when everyone knows a typhoon is coming.  We weren't even sure if the festival was cancelled or not.  If its cancelled, we had alternative plans in the works.  We were meeting our friend Reiko here as well as since Yukio had to take some test at Aoyama University.

The sign is up.  Could it be possible that they have not cancelled the festival?

And because it isn't crowded we had no problem finding a seat.

The hard rain was yet to come.

The first order of business - Sapporo Beer!

Alright, time to go purchase some Hokkaido cuisine.  We started off with an assortment of grilled seafood.

Genghis Khan from popular Lamb cuisine restaurant [Matsuo].

Spiral sausage /
I love meat!

Crab Miso with Crab Meat /
Fried Soft Fish Roe (you know, fish sperm, it's a delicacy!) Actually I skipped on eating this.  I'm not a big fan of shirako.
Crab miso soup /

Time for more beer.  A taste testing sample of one of Hokkaido's craft beer.  There was a stout, a lager, a weizen, and that green one!
One of these croquettes was filled with scallops.
It was too cold to hang out here so after these snacks we went to the Bunkamura Museum to check out the Trick Art exhibition.  Our friend Yukio was going to join us around 4 or 5pm so we planned on having dinner at a place called the Shibuya Niku Yokocho whichi translates to something like "Shibuya Meat Alley!
