Tokyo Tour Guide /

The day after the Loaded concert, I met up with John so we could do the beginner's tour of Tokyo.  We met around noon in Shibuya so the first thing to do was was go grab some lunch.  And what better place than Japan to go out for some sushi?  That's exactly what we did.  The place I had in mind seemed to have changed owners and had a new name - [Genki Sushi].

So, here is a bit of what we had!

Check this out - a sushi place I can take my Dad to (as there is chicken on the menu!)  Dad not a big fan of raw fish!  Oh, and desserts as well.

Any first time visitor to Tokyo must go to Sensoji in Asakusa so that is precisely where we went.

At Sensoji /

A peak at the Tokyo Sky Tree and the Sumida River.

But it was such a nice day that instead of continuing on to Tokyo Tower or the Imperial Palace, we decided to have a couple of beers at one of the outdoor stalls that lined one area.

Here we are enjoying drinks (I had to introduce Paul to Japanese alcoholic drink - Hoppy) and talking to our new friends Tetsu and Miyuki.

Duff McKagan's Loaded w/ Adler Japan Tour 2013 /

A couple of months before this show, I received a friend request from a friend's friend named Paul who said he would be working this show.  As it would be his first time in Japan and he doesn't know anybody, he asked if I wouldn't mind showing him around.  In return, he would put me and a friend on the guest list for the show.  Two former members of Guns 'N Roses on one bill.  Of course I responded right away! As you can see above, the show was scheduled for March 7 & 8th at Shibuya Duo Music Exchange.

I took a rock-loving young co-worker of mine, who said it was also his first foreign artist concert. We were wondering if Loaded or Adler would do any Guns 'N Roses song as we weren't familiar with any songs by the current bands.

But we had no need to worry - Duff came out as a guest for one song during Adler's set and they played "Mr Brownstone" from "Appetite for Destruction".  Duff played a few Guns tunes as well.  Their band also did covers of The Damned, Johnny Thunder, and the Misfits as well.  Paul, who was Duff's guitar tech also played guitar on the encore song which was a cover of Iggy and Stooges's "I Wanna Be Your Dog".  Set list provided below.

Pizza and Cafe [Napoli's] /

I couldn't decide what to label this post.  This is not exactly an Italian restaurant but its also not like the fast food pizza place like [Sbarro's].  But it is kind of like a McDonald's except their menu consists of pizzas instead of burgers.  Anyway, this place opened a year or two ago and is really close to my place of employ in Shibuya but this was my first time checking it out.  The pizzas are really cheap too, only 350yen for a Margherita.  Or you could choose the set route, only 650yen and includes a drink and side order of fries.  I decided to go the set route and order me their Diavola pizza (which is a spicy salami pizza).

Nice thin crust pizza.  While I was here, some Japanese guy who just returned to Japan after spending many years started talking to me and we had an interesting conversation about music while eating pizza.  Not a bad way to spend time.

Bon Appetit!
