Handmade Udon Shop [Noraya] /

A friend of ours invited us to have dinner with him at this udon shop called [Noraya] where they make their own noodles. But its more of an izakaya than a udon shop. Its also a chain shop as well.

Freshness Burger /

Yep, I have introduced this burger shop before. But I'm going to introduce you to their veggie burgers that I've eaten as well. This doesn't mean I will stop eating meat by any means but having a veggie burger every now and then is probably good for my body. The first veggie burger is the Vegetable Bean burger. This patty of this burger is made with three types of beans (garbanzo beans, red kidney beans, and green peas) mixed with oatmeal and is served with tomato, lettuce, onions and cheese. It's quite delicious.

Today, I had one of their Tofu Burgers. Aah, don't give me that look. I have tofu burgers before but none of them ever tasted like this. What were those health food places thinking of. The Freshness Burger Tofu Burger is made with real tofu of course and is topped with a mildly spicy sauce, tomato, lettuce, and avocado. Best tasting tofu burger I've ever eaten.

Hachioji Ramen /

My neighborhood convenient store produced another instant noodle I just had to try. This time it was something called Hachioji Ramen, Hachioji being the name of a town located right outside of Tokyo.

Ooh, I like the use of a lot of onions. The soup is soy sauce based and its quite simple with a slice of pork and menma. The noodles are fairly thick and makes for a filling snack.

Tokyo Metropolitan Police Museum /

The great thing about some of these smaller, local museums is the fact that they are free. I like free and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Museum falls into that category.

Oh no, I had posted this picture on my Facebook page and a friend left a comment that said I looked like Eric Estrada from "C.H.I.P.S".

The building itself is four stories but pictures are allowed only on the first floor. But the first floor has all the cool police vehicles so makes for great picture taking.

A Walk around Ningyocho (Part 2) /

Continuing my walk around Ningyocho with a bud.

This is Tokyo so you're bound to come across a temple or shrine wherever you're walking.

Cherry Blossom season is over (well, this was taken a couple of months ago).

Our walk was taking us from Ningyocho to Ginza where we crossed the Yoroi Bridge.

Yoroi Bridge /

A little history of the bridge but forgive me as I am not going to translate the sign.

We also walked past the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Hm, looks a lot smaller than the New York Stock Exchange.

Uh, okay - naked women statue near the Yoroi Bridge.

Can you believe we came across another shrine?

The last place we checked out before going our separate ways was the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Museum, but I will save that for the next post.

A Walk around Ningyocho (Part 1) /

Okay, so I've been procrastinating on writing on my own blog as well. It seems my brother-in-law has once again asked my wife when I was going to write a new post. Now that Bryan has safely returned to the States, I must return to my point of reference - which was Ningyocho where me and a friend went to have a huge gourmet burger for lunch. And although I'm currently hooked on a drama called "Shinzan Mono" that takes place in this area, that had no impact on why I chose this location, that would have been the burger shop [Brozers'].

While waiting for my friend to join me for lunch, I had a little time on my own. And as I checked out a map of the area, I discovered that Ningyocho is also the birthplace of one of Japan's more famous literary authors - Junichiro Tanizaki. Unfortunately, his monument was just a large plaque on a wall of a building.

There is a nice quiet little park located not too far from the burger shop as well.

Cool statue, my friend read the sign explaining what it represented but as it's been over a month now, I've forgotten most of it. But for my Japanese readers, see below:

Cool Clock Towers /

What does the whale have to do with Ningyocho? As this area was known for making marionettes, the whiskers of the whale were used and are still used as the strings for the puppets.

I can't keep up with the names of all the temples and shrines you will find throughout the city.

Weird looking building - apparently housing a Chinese restaurant on the 1st floor /

To be continued...
