Golden Week Adventures 2015 Day 1 / ゴルデンウィーク・アドベンチャー 2015年 初日

My wife and I went to her hometown of Aomori for Golden Week this year.  It has been four years since our last visit.  I had taken Friday off but had to wait until the afternoon for my wife to get off work.  We were taking the Shinkansen from Tokyo station and would leave around 4:30pm.  We only bought a one-way ticket as we will be driving back with a couple of friends from Aomori to Tokyo.  Apparently a nine-hour drive.  As the only one without a license, I will just be a passenger!

Time to break in my Diesel sneakers on this trip.

As always, have to have my pre-departure beer.  Nothing special this time around except it was nice and cold.

もちろん旅たち前のビールを飲まないっと。 普通のビールですが、冷たくって美味しい。

Small ekiben shop on the platform.  But our mother-in-law said she would have dinner ready for us so we didn't buy any this time around.

The Hayabusa Shinkansen which will take us to Shin Aomori Station.

The Akita Komachi Shinkansen will travel the same way to Morioka before it splits off and heads to Akita.

Posing in front of the Hayabusa.

One more, just in case.

Hayabusa 27 to Shin Aomori.

And we're on our way!

Beer no.2 and some snacks.

The view from our seat somewhere between Sendai and Morioka.

Shin Aomori Station.  This sign says please come again!  But we just got here!!

Small Nebuta float, one of the symbols of Aomori.
We also bought some yakitori from this shop called Fuku Fuku.
And finally to the old homestead.  This is my wife's old room.  It's also the room I stayed at when I first came to visit.
My family's pictures at my mother-in-law's house!
And so ended our first day of our Golden Week adventure.  Tomorrow is going to be a busy day as we are going to check out where my mother-in-law works and then we will meet up with friends around 10:30am and head to Hirosaki to check out the cherry blossoms (if they're still in bloom).
