Tokyo Flashbacks : New Year Welcoming Party 2014 /

There are a lot of Japanese traditions I enjoy. A couple of my favorites are the bonenkai and the shinnenkai. The bonenkai is a party held in December to celebrate the end of another year. The shinnnenkai while usually celebrated in January, is a party to welcome in the new year. However, my friends and I had a very late shinnenkai as it was held in April! One of our friends was the owner and chef of restaurant called [Utou] in Ushigome Kagurazaka and this is where we had our new year welcoming party.

He was busy making us all the food!

More food! Meat and daikon! Pork belly to be exact.

The beer, wine and Nihon-shu was flowing as well.

More food with tempura.

The two ladies on the left were my informal English class students in Tokyo. The woman on the right is the sister of the person in the middle.

Me and my friend Yuko 33 (a nickname I gave her when she was still 32).

Oh no! You can't see the person standing behind me because of my big head!

Now you can!

Walking back to the station after the party, we stopped at this shrine.

And although it was already April, so it was the start of a new year!
