Day Trip to Nikko (Part 1) / 日光日帰り旅行 (パート1)

Yes, I know I've been procrastinating.  My wife and I went on a day trip with our friends Yukio and Reiko to Nikko sometime in the middle of May.  And now, I'm finally getting around to writing about it.  I still have a bunch of future posts to be written to but all in due time.

On our way to Toshogu and other World Heritage Sites at Nikko.  A short rest stop welcoming us to the Road to Nikko.

Stairs leading to the entrance to Toshogu.

Before I post the pics of Toshogu and the surrounding temples, I will provide you with the URL to their official site.  You can read about the history there.  The site is in Japanese and English.

Walking to the Seimon (main gate).

The sign on this large boulder says that this building is the site of "The Place of Kendo's Rebirth".

We are about to pass through the one of the toriis.

One of the many toriis / 鳥居がいっぱい

Entrance to the Okari-den (Temporary Shrine 1689, cultural property) / 御借殿
Okari-den / 御借殿

Getting closer to the Main Temple / 本殿にまだ辿り着いてません

Oops, looks like I forgot to take a picture of the main Ishidorii (Stone Torii Gate)
Gojunoto (Five-Story Pagoda) / 五重塔
We are now nearing the Omote-mon (Front Gate) / 表門に近付いてます
The Ishidorii from behind / 後ろから撮った石鳥居
This map should give you an idea of how large the area is / 地図を見たらどのくらいの広さが分かる
Sanjinko (Three Sacred Storehouses) / 三神庫
To be continued...
