33rd Furusato Shibuya Festival /

This weekend the 33rd Shibuya Festival was held at Yoyogi Park. I decided to take a look see. Unlike the food festivals that I've seen here, this is a community festival sponsored by Shibuya Ward. The park was divided into different zones. The Attraction Zone which included booths by the Boy Scouts, the Red Cross and other community clubs. The Bazaar Zone which is like a huge flea market. The World Zone which features booths from the different embassies in Shibuya Ward - the embassy of Peru, Ireland, Bulgaria, Thailand, South Korea, Vietnam, and Finland where you could meet Santa as well. There were also the communication zone, the kid's sports zone, and more. It was like a small version of the Azabu Juban Noryo Festival.

I dropped in on a booth that featured various flower arrangements. They all looked very professional but these were made by elementary and junior high school students.

Of course, the main reason I love these festivals is to check out the food. I wandered around seeing if there was anything interesting that perhaps I haven't tried yet. The first item I came across was sold at the Bulgarian embassy booth - Rose Juice. It was fairly sweet and really does have the fragrance of rose!

As I wasn't that hungry, the next item I tried was also an unusual drink. This time from the Peruvian embassy booth. I tried something called chicha morada - which I learned is a non-alcoholic drink made from purple maize. Yep, a purple corn drink! But trust me, it tastes a lot better than it sounds. Which I then followed with a pisco sour (Pisco being a Peruvian spirit).

The Peruvian embassy booth was also selling Inca Kola as well, but I had featured that particular beverage quite a while ago.

The Irish embassy booth was next to the Peruvian embassy booth where I spotted this Leprechaun!

And you know I cannot resist craft beers, so I treated myself to Fujizakura Heights Rauch beer. I nice dark beer made with the waters from Mount Fuji.

I did go back to the Peruvian for a nice grilled sausage though because they were looking mighty delicious.

And so ended my little adventure at the Shibuya festival. However, it was still light out so I walked around some more finding other interesting things in the neighborhood, but I will save that for another post.
