Toro Hako /

And now to continue my post from Asakusa and Hanayashiki. It was nearing dinnertime and my friend Yukio suggested a place in Ueno. He says its a great place for seafood. So we hopped into a cab and headed towards Ueno's Ame Yokocho. The name of the restaurant he chose was [Toro Hako]. The place has the atmosphere of an outdoor food stall and even a meat-loving carnivore like me can enjoy all the different food stuffs from the sea.

We started off with some sardines.

And some sashimi of makerel.

Aside from fish, we snacked on some cabbage with miso, and some of you may find Hoppy an interesting drink. Yes, its alcohol.

Some whole-roasted garlics, one of my favorite dishes.

Back to fish - grilling smelt.

And cod.

Conger Eel /

Tuna /

Large slab of tuna /

This place also serves a drink called the kingyo which translates to goldfish (no, they do not use goldfish in the drink). Its shochu with a pepper floating inside it - very spicy (and really awful tasting as well).

Kingyo / 金魚

See, it looks like a goldfish swimming in your glass.

Winding down are meal with crab miso (a favorite of Mikako's).

And finally some squid (which I passed on).

Bon Appetit!
