Loud Park 2013 (Day 1 - 1st Half) /

Time to turn back the clocks to last October as I once again went to Japan's only pure heavy metal festival - Loud Park!  For two day and nights I banged my head at the Saitama Super Arena.   Of course I would be on my own.  And yes, I would be banging my head from 10:30am until 10:00 in the evening on a Saturday and Sunday!

As you can see from the line-up, the headliners for Day 1 would be Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington (from Linkin Park) on vocals.  I remember seeing this band play at the University of Puget Sound Field House many many ages ago.  But the bands I was looking forward to seeing on this first day would be Europe, Lynch Mob, and from Finland - a band called Lordi.  But what I was really looking forward to was Day 2 with headliners King Diamond!  And probably the world's first and only metal / idol band Babymetal.

Time Schedule /
Yes, I'm drinking a Red Eye at 10am in the morning.

And now - off to the stage area for the first band of the day.  Young band from Finland called Lost Society.

Very cool set.  Old school thrash, a nice way to start off the morning.

3.KILL (Those Who Oppose Me)
4.Fast Loud Death
5.Toxic Avenger
6.Braindead Metalhead
7.Diary of a Thrashman
8.Trash All Over You
9.Fatal Anoxia
10.Piss Out My Ass

Next up - Japanese metalcore/thrash and punk melded together kind of music with Crossfaith.  I saw these guys at the Japan Ozzfest in May so I already knew what to expect.  Not really my type of music but I just love the atmosphere of live shows.

1.We Are the Future
4.Countdown to Hell

The 3rd artist of the day - Bring Me the Horizon from the UK.  I have heard of this band and they've been heavily featured in English music magazine Kerrang but I had no idea what their music was like.

1.Shadow Moses
2.The House of Wolves
3.Go to Hell, for Heaven's Sake
4.Chelsea Smile
5.Can You Feel My Heart

I was never a big fan of Strapping Young Lad or the Devin Townsend Project so I pretty muched missed this set and went looking for a bite to eat.

1.Truth  (Devin Townsend song)
2.Regulator  (Devin Townsend song)
3.Christeen  (Devin Townsend song)
4.Kingdom  (Devin Townsend song)
6.War  (Devin Townsend song)

I met up with a friend for lunch so we chatted for a while and pretty much missed the next set by a band called Therion.  A band that started out as a death metal but turned into something much different.  But since I only caught the last two songs and I don't listen to death metal, I couldn't really give you a review.

2.The Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah
5.Poupée de Cire, Poupée de Son  (France Gall cover)
6.Wine of Aluqah
7.To Mega Therion
8.Unguentum Sabbati

And now, for one of the bands I've been waiting to see - Lordi from Finland.  These guys are not GWAR but may remind you of them.  The music is pure metal but the way those guys are dressed...well, check them out and make up your own mind.  And no, they are not the Finnish Slipknot.

1.We're Not Bad for the Kids (We're Worse)
2.Bringing Back the Balls to Rock
3.The Riff
4.Who's Your Daddy?
5.It Snows in Hell
6.I'm the Best
7.Devil Is a Loser
8.Hard Rock Hallelujah
9.Sincerely With Love
10.Would You Love a Monsterman?

To be continued...
