Ivan Ramen /

Last week on my day off, I went to Roka Koen in Setagaya Ward to have lunch at a place called Ivan Ramen (yes, I've featured this ramen shop in a previous post). But I didn't go here to eat ramen. Today, my goal was to eat the roast tomato with pork rice dish. Not knowing how large the dish is, I ordered the regular size. It was small enough for me to also enjoy a ramen, so I ate ramen here as well after all. Ivan had just featured a tonkotsu ramen on his menu for a limited time. Of course I had to order it.

Roasted tomato with pork rice dish /

As there was line outside the shop, Ivan himself came out to talk to those of us waiting. He remembered me from the first time I came. I told him that today I wanted to try the roast tomato meshi. He recommended having it with the pork as well. Oh my! Delicious. The rice, the pork, and the roasted tomato blends well together. An excellent dish and can be a meal in itself.

Ivan Special Tonkotsu Ramen /

The tonkotsu ramen was delicious as well. The broth was creamy and rich but not very heavy. Topped with onions and a poached egg with a hint of garlic. The chashu (pork) is also nice and thick and is closer to kakuni than a regular slice of chashu. And it's so tender. The ramen is made with wheat noodles which Ivan makes himself at the shop and is nice and thick and soaks up the broth quite well. Oh, I'm in heaven!

Thick noodles in a tasty broth, does life get any better than this?

Bon Appetit!
