A Walk around Gakugei Dai / 学芸大の散歩

When we went walking around Musashi Koyama, we took the bus to get there. Our route passes through Gakugei Dai which is a University neighborhood. It looked like it might be an interesting place for one of our walks so we went to explore.

以前武蔵小山の散歩に行った時、バスで行った。途中で学芸大を通って、面白そうと思ったんで、今度そこに散歩しおうと提案した。ちょっと前になるけど、そこに散歩しました。

The first place we always like to explore is the market street near the station. Unfortunately, aside from the market street, there was nothing of interest around here. We were about to head home when I saw a sign for a nearby park. Since I didn't want our walk to be a total waste, I suggested checking it out. The name of the place was called Himonya Park.

最初に探検したのは駅の前の商店街。商店街以外に面白い所がなっかた。帰ろうと思った時にあるサインを発見。駅からちょっと離れてる場所に公園があった。帰るのがもったないし、せっかく散歩で来てるから、その公園を行ってみることにした。碑文谷（ひもんや）公園でした。

As you can see, there was a lake, a little fountain, and a tiny shrine. What you cannot see from this picture is that this lake is full of turtles and ducks.

写真から見ると、池があって、噴水があって、それと小さな神社。写真から見れないのはこの池の中の大量な亀とアヒルが居ること。

Utsukushima Shrine / 厳島神社

Before you think there some phallic symbol within the rock, take a closer look at the picture below.

ちょっと岩の中に変な物があると思ってる方、下記の写真をもっと細かくチェックしてみてね。

This was located near the shrine as well. Not sure what its purpose is. And with this, our walk was at an end.

Superfly "Dancing at Budokan!!" / Superfly 「ダンシング・アット・武道館」

On Monday, I refreshingly went to a concert. Superfly is currently my favorite group and I've been listening to it quite a bit. This woman, Shiho is Superfly. She may be a petite Japanese woman but she has one hell of a voice. Her music is rock! She was influenced by Janis Joplin. In fact, Big Brother and the Holding Company invited her to sing a couple of songs with them for the 30th Anniversary of Woodstock. Superfly currently has two albums out and played a two-hour set featuring songs from both albums, but since I don't believe her albums are available in the States, I will skip the set list. The show sold out quickly so I bought my tickets through Yahoo Auction. But here was a strange coincidence. The friends I went with to Kinugawa Hot Springs decided that they wanted to go to the show too. As it was mostly sold-out, they also got their tickets through Yahoo Auction. The made their bid a month after I did, from a totally different person. Guess what? There seats were right next to ours!! I definitely want to see Superfly in concert again.

この前の月曜日、久しぶりにライブを見に行った。Superflyのライブでした。今僕が一番好きなアーティストです。ポスターの女性、越智志帆はSuperflyです。彼女は背が低いけど、パワフルな歌声の持ち主。聴いたらびっくりするよ。音楽はロック。彼女が尊敬してるアーティストはジャニス・ジョプリン。今年アメリカで行われた、ウッドストック30周年のライブでジャニスのバックバンド、ビッグブラザー・アンド・ザ・ホルディング・カンパニがSuperflyを招待して、そのバンドとジャニスの名曲を二曲も歌いました。よかったことに、武道館ライブもウッドストックで歌った曲も歌ってくれた。ジャニスの「ピース・オブ・マイ・ハート」。ライブも二時間ちょっとで感動しましたね。二枚目のアルバムもオリコンチャート①にもなってた。一般発売の時でチケットを買おうと思ったが、すぐ完売になってたんので、Yahooオークションでチケットをゲット。それで、超偶然な事があった。鬼怒川温泉で一緒に行った友達がこのライブも行きたくなったで、彼もYahooオークで入札しました。僕より一ヶ月後だよ。それにまったく違う人から入札。落札して、調べてみたら、私たちの隣の席でした。凄くない？あの武道館で隣の席になったんだよ。またSuperflyのライブ見に行きたい！

Kankoku Shokudo / 韓国食堂

Today, Mikako and I went to Shimokitazawa to finish up our Christmas shopping. And as it was lunch time when we went, we decided to eat lunch first and then shop. We couldn't decide on going out for Korean or for ramen when we came across the Kankoku Shokudo's second shop and saw on their menu, kimchee chige ramen.

今日、下北沢でクリスマスショッピングに出かけました。着いたらちょうど昼だったので、どこにランチを食べるのを迷ってた。韓国料理にするか、それともラーメンにするか。その時目に入ったのは「韓国食堂」のメニューにキムチチゲラーメンがあった。以前に韓国食堂を食べにいったが、これは二号店でした。

I'm imagining my mother reading this blog looking at another morsel that she would like to try that Mikako and I enjoyed. Which means she will probably go out for some Korean food herself as well.

自分のお母さんがまた僕のブログを読んで、あきれて、また食べ物のネタと言うでしょう。でも自分が食べてみたいものばっかりのせるから憎たらしいと思われてるかも。それで、お母さんも間違いなく、韓国料理を作るか、食べに行くと僕は間違いないと思う。

And because this is a Korean restaurant, your meal is also served with kimchee.

ここは韓国の料理店なんで、もちろんキムチ付です。

Tamashi no Ippai Tonkotsu Shoyu / 魂の一杯 豚骨醤油

Every Sunday morning at 10:00am, Mikako and I watch a news variety program called "Sunday Japon". One of the corners on the show is regular - George Takahashi's "Ramen Road" - where he and a guest will go on a drive and check out different ramen shops. Now, George Takahashi in association with the program has produced an instant ramen called "Tamashi no Ippai tonkotsu shoyu" which translates to something like "Soul-filled Ramen" with a pork and soy sauce based soup. He also has a book out that lists all the ramen shops he's visited so far. It wasn't so bad, but still doesn't compare to Nakamoto's Moukou Tanmen.

毎週日曜日の朝、僕と美香子はニューズバリエティの番組「Sunday Japon」をいつも見てます。一つのコーナーはレギュラーの高橋ジョージの「ラーメンロード」毎週ゲストと一緒にドライブして、いろんなラーメンやを食べに行く。そのコーナーから生み出した、高橋ジョージプロドゥスのカップ麺「Sunday Japon 魂の一杯豚骨醤油」が出来ました。悪くはないが中本蒙古タンメンにはかなわないけどね。「ラーメンロード」の本も出版されてる！

Veggie Donuts? / 野菜のドーナッツ？

There is a small dessert shop in Nakameguro called "Potager" that specializes in sweets made with vegetables. Now they've taken things a step further by selling some of their products in neighborhood convenience stores. I tried there spinach donut holes and burdock root donut. The donut holes were okay, but I preferred the burdock root donut. Healthy donuts with fewer calories, can't beat that.

中目黒にある「ポタージェ」とゆう店は野菜を使ったデザートを提供してる店。今度は中目まで行けなくても、「ポタージェ」のスイーツが近くのコンビニで買える様になった。僕が買ったのはほうれん草のボールドーナッツとごぼうのチョコファッション。この二種類なら僕はごぼうの方は好きでした。

Moyai Statue in Shibuya is Gone! / 渋谷駅のモヤイ象が盗まれた！

Oh no! The Moyai Statue at Shibuya Station has been stolen!!

あっ！大変だ！渋谷駅の名所のモヤイ象が盗まれた！！

Is it a promotional stunt? I don't know. Must check the "Steal Japan" site.

Curry House [CoCo Ichibanya] / カレーハウス 「CoCo 壱番屋」

On one of our recent neighborhood walks, it was lunchtime and we decided to check out this curry chain store. You can choose the spicyness as well as the amount of rice at this place. I decided to try their keema curry while Mikako went for a regular beef curry.

どっかの近所散歩した時に、昼食はカレーのチェイン店「CoCo 壱番屋」に行ってきました。ここのカレーメニューも豊富で辛さも選べる。僕はこの日キーマカレーを注文。美香子は普通のビーフカレーを。

Its cheap and filling, but there are so many other places to go for curry we probably won't be coming back here soon.

安くて美味しいけど、他のカレー屋がいっぱいあって、ここに行くのは多分あんまりないと思うな。
