Tokyo Flashbacks : Tower Records Database Farewell Party / 東京フラッシュバック ： タワーレコードデータベース部送別会

This blog was only on hiatus as I moved from Tokyo to Aomori in November of 2016. But I still have a lot of Tokyo adventures I never got around to writing about. This, the first in my flashbacks of living in Tokyo was my going away party thrown for me by members of the database department of Tower Records, a company I had worked for from 1988 until 2013. That's twenty-three years at the big Yellow and Red! The party was held at an Italian restaurant in Aomonoyokocho, which was where Tower Record's main office was located. The name of the restaurant was [Gottsu Vigale].

東京から青森に引っ越してもうすぐ二年が経ちます。その間このブログがずーと休んでました。でも東京のネタがまだ山ほどあるんで、これから東京フラッシュバックという形でいろいろ話します。第一弾のフラッシュバックは自分が２０年以上勤めた会社、タワーレコードのデータベース部の皆様が送別会をやってくれました。当時タワーの本社があった青物横丁のイタリアンレストラン、「ごっつヴィゴーレ」でやってくれました。

同僚からのプレゼントはアースシェイカーのCD。さすが俺の同僚。僕がハードロック・ヘヴィメタル好きなのはみんなが知ってた。

解散まじかでグループフォト。写真を撮った人ちょっと酔っ払ってかな。それともカメラがそんな良いものではなかったかも。

Tokyo Tour Guide / 東京案内

The day after the Loaded concert, I met up with John so we could do the beginner's tour of Tokyo.  We met around noon in Shibuya so the first thing to do was was go grab some lunch.  And what better place than Japan to go out for some sushi?  That's exactly what we did.  The place I had in mind seemed to have changed owners and had a new name - [Genki Sushi].

ローデッドのライブの翌日、渋谷でポールと待ち合わせ。今日は初心者向けの東京案内の予定。昼にあったもんで、最初にすることはやっぱりランチ。日本に来てやっぱり寿司を食べないっと。渋谷のセンター街で築地本店という店に連れてあげようと思ったら、店の名前が変わってた。「元気寿司」になった。

So, here is a bit of what we had!

Check this out - a sushi place I can take my Dad to (as there is chicken on the menu!)  Dad not a big fan of raw fish!  Oh, and desserts as well.

これもみて。 寿司屋なのに、自分のお父さんが連れてあげられる（自分のお父さん、寿司は苦手）。でもこの店のメニューに鶏肉とかある。甘いものもあり。

Any first time visitor to Tokyo must go to Sensoji in Asakusa so that is precisely where we went.

東京で初めて来た人は必ず浅草の浅草寺を連れて行くべし。それが次の目的。

But it was such a nice day that instead of continuing on to Tokyo Tower or the Imperial Palace, we decided to have a couple of beers at one of the outdoor stalls that lined one area.

天気も凄い良かったので、東京タワーと皇居に行くのを断念して、外でビール飲むのを優先した。

Here we are enjoying drinks (I had to introduce Paul to Japanese alcoholic drink - Hoppy) and talking to our new friends Tetsu and Miyuki.

ポールにホッピーという飲み物を教えてあげた。相席だったので、隣の二人と仲良く話しました。

Home Party with Friends / 友達の家のホームパーティ

If it wasn't for the couple pictured above, I may never have gotten married. It's true. This is the former Master and Mama-san of the oden-yatai where I was a regular. It's also where I met Mikako. It's been a few years since the yatai was retired, but we were invited to their home for an informal get together.

上記に写ってる夫婦がいなければ、僕は結婚してないかも。本当ですよ！僕が常連客になったおでんの屋台のマスターとママ。その屋台で現在の妻と出会いました。残念ながら、今屋台はやってないですが、この間、私たちはマスターとママの家に招待されました。他の友達と一緒（友達もおでんの屋台で知り合った）。

It was an evening of beer, food, and fun!

Picnic in Komazawa Park / 駒沢公園でピクニック

Last weekend when we had beautiful weather, Mikako and I went on a picnic with some friends and their kids. We went to the Komazawa Olympic Park. After eating and downing a few beers, we moved to larger open area and I got to do something I haven't done in I don't know how many years - I flew a kite!


先週凄い良い天気の日、駒沢公園で友達とピクニックをやりました。食べて、飲んだ後に、長年やってない事をやりました。それはなんと凧上げです。

Okay, so a lot of the food was store-bought, but what the hell.

食べ物はほとんどスーパーで買いましたが、そうゆうこと気にしない、気にしない。

Home Cookin' & Rino at 1yr 5 months / 手作り料理と梨乃ちゃん

Our friends invited us out to a picnic at Komazawa Park during Golden Week but the weather did not want to cooperate. So, our friends invited us to their home instead. Which means we will get to see Rino, their daughter who is now 1year and 5 months old.

ゴールデンウイーク中友達が私たちを誘って、駒沢公園でピクニックをやる予定だったが、あいにく天気が悪かったので、友達の家に招待された。手料理と梨乃ちゃん会うのが楽しみだな。

But that doesn't mean the picnic was cancelled - just postponed until Sunday!

From Street Fair to House Party / 祭りからホームパーティーへ

As I mentioned in the last post, we only stayed at the festival for about a half-hour or less. We than bought food and drinks and headed over to 21Ban's house. Check out our table of goodies.

先のポストと言った通り、商店街は３０分程度しかいなかったので、そのあと食べ物と飲み物を買って２１番に家に行ってホームパーティーになりました。テーブルの上を見て：

But the star of the home party wasn't the food - it was Rino-chan of course!

Holy Matrimony (Part 5) Reception after the Reception / 結婚式 （パート５）二次会

With the formalities of the wedding ceremony and the reception being over, next on the agenda is the nijikai. Now, this is what an American would expect at the reception. Very informal, mostly a party for friends without the parents and relatives. Ken and Yukino's nijikai was held at a place called Tamariba in Shinagawa, which started at 7:00pm and lasted for another couple of hours. The bride and groom had another change of clothes, and their was a buffet, a drink bar, and a bingo game. The prizes given away were a gift certificates for Matsuzaka Beef, a voucher for Aesthetics, and gift certificates for a course meal at Ken and Yukino's restaurant, Kitamachi Utou which is located in a place called Ushigome Kagurazaka.

結婚式と披露宴が終わると、次あるのは二次会。二次会のほうはアメリカの結婚式の披露宴みたいな感じで、友達同士のパーティーの様な感じです。健とゆきちゃんの二次会は品川にある「たまり場」のレストランで行われました。夜七時から始まって、二時間位つづきました。新郎新婦がまたまた着替えて、二次会の場所に登場しました。おつまみもバイキング風で、酒も飲み放題。ビンゴもやりました。景品は松坂牛のギフト券、エステイのギフト券、健とゆきちゃんの店「北町善知鳥」のコース券、とか結構豪華な物いっぱいです。うちは当たりませんでした！
