As we were leaving Ikebukuro and the Vietnamese restaurant [Pho Viet], we decided to head towards Zoshigaya. We decided to walk there. It should only take about ten minutes.

We walked past the United Church of Christ in Japan (UCCJ) Tokyo Ikebukuro Church.
歩きながら、日本基督教団（UCCJ）東京池袋教会を通った。
目指してたのは鬼子母神。

But the coolest thing about Zoshigaya Kishibojin Temple is that it houses Japan's oldest dagashiya, the Japanese term for a Mom and Pop candy store.
でも雑司ヶ谷鬼子母神で一番面白い見所は境内に日本一最古の駄菓子屋がある。
This name of this shop is [Kamikawaguchiya]. It was established in the first year of the Tenmei Era (1781) which means it's been in business for over 240 years. The Tenmei Era means this shop was doing business during the Edo era.
駄菓子屋の名前は「上川口屋」。創業天明元年（１７８１年）。ということで２４０年以上営業してます。

Continuing our walk, we stopped at the Zoshigaya Otori Shrine.

Ebisu, one of the Seven Gods of Fortune. He is the God of Fisherman and Luck.
七福神の恵比寿様。商売繁盛や豊作の神様と言われてます。

Well, this sign explains the mystery.
このサインを読んで、謎が解けた。
The grave of Japanese novelist Natsume Soseki. It is located at the Zoshigaya Cemetery.
日本を代表する作家、夏目漱石の墓。雑司ヶ谷霊園にあります。
This sign says that this area was used by falconers in the middle of the Edo era. The noble class hunted wild animals with falcons.
へ～、江戸時代中期にこの辺に鷹匠が存在してました。鷹狩りも行ってたらしい。
