Ivan Ramen / アイバンラーメン

If you live in Tokyo and you are also a fan of ramen, then you would be sure to know who is pictured on this cup noodles.  It is Ivan Orkin of Ivan Ramen fame, the only American who owns and runs a ramen shop in Tokyo.  In Roka Koen to be exact.  He has also opened a second shop in Kyodo.  He has also written a book that was published by a Japanese publisher titled 「アイバンのラーメン」 describing his beginnings.  This cup noodle features a shio ramen.

東京に生活して、ラーメン好きなら誰でも知ってるこの顔。持ち主は“アイバンラーメン”のアイバン・オーキンさん。東京で唯一アメリカ人で芦花公園でやってるラーメン屋。現在は二店舗を経営してる。二号店は経堂にある。彼は自分の体験を本にも出版されてます。日本の出版社で「アイバンのラーメン」という本。私も読みました。結構面白いよ。アイバンが出したカップ麺は塩ラーメン。

Not bad, but you really need to go to his shop and experience the real thing.  I've written about his ramen shop and highly recommend it.

普通に美味しいですが、やっぱり本人の店のラーメンを味わって欲しい。結構前はそのラーメン屋のネタも書きました。店のラーメンは絶品ですよ。

Acecook Kara Miso Ramen / エースコック 辛味噌ラーメン

Why yes, instant noodle posts continue.  Today I am featuring a cup noodle made by Acecook, "Kara Miso Ramen" with a double pack.  The packs included are kara miso and aonori which are spicy miso and seaweed.  As I mentioned, I love spicy foods so I always have to try any cup or instant noodles with the kanji [辛] karai in it.

はい、またもやカップ麺のネタが続いてます。今日紹介するのはエースコックの辛味噌ラーメン。Ｗパックも書いております。辛味噌ダレと青海苔。や～「辛」という字が入ってるカップ麺は必ず買ってみますね。スパイシーなものは好きなんです。

I wonder how many more cup noodles I have yet to feature.  Yes, this was good, but nothing compares to the spicyness of Moukou Tanmen Nakamoto.  I'm going to have to take my sister and brother-in-law to the Moukou Tanmen shop as they've only experienced the cup version so far.

あとどの位のカップ麺紹介するのかな。これも美味しかったけどスパシーさは猛攻タンメン中本には勝てませんね。妹夫妻が日本に来たら、絶対猛攻タンメン中本の店も連れてあげなくちゃ。

Maru-chan Mukashi nagara no Sauce Yakisoba / マルちゃん 昔ながらのソース焼きそば

Yes, catching up on the instant noodle posts.  Today is another product from Maru-chan.  It's called "Mukashi nagara no Sauce Yakisoba".  This roughly translates to "Old style yakisoba".  And if you still are not familiar with what yakisoba is it is stir-fried noodles.  I'm a big fan of yakisoba and all the different varieties have not disappointed me.  This old style uses a thick noodle and two different sauces.

はい、今回もカップ麺のネタ。ま、カップではありませんが、インスタントです。紹介するのはマルちゃん「昔ながらのソース焼きそば」。自分は結構焼きそば好きなんで、いろいろ買って食べてみるのが楽しい。今まで不味いというような焼きそばは遭遇してない。 麺が違うと書いてます。でもつやもちってどういう意味かな？ あと２つのソースでコク＆スパイシー。

I don't know, the picture makes it look unappetizing but I assure you, for an instant, it's quite delicious.

なんだか写真で見る限りは不味そうな感じでも実際の味は美味しいですよ。

Maru-chan Ratan-men / マルちゃんらーたん

I can't believe it's been over a year since I did an instant noodle post.  I have quite a few stored up so I think I shall be writing these simple posts for a while (maybe).  I do have another neighborhood walk post waiting to be written as well.  Anyway, I can't even remember when or where I tried this but I can guess the why.  Mikako and I love spicy foods and just by the look of the picture, this might prove tasty.  The soup is soy based but also includes ra-yu.  This is Maru-chan's tantan-men with ra-yu and called Ra-tan.

自分も信じられないけど、一年以上カップ麺のネタ書いてませんね。別にカップ麺食べるのをやめたわけではございませんよ。カップ麺についてのネタ結構ありますよ。今後はじゃんじゃん書き込む予定。もちろん“近所散歩”のネタもありますよ。今日紹介するのはマルちゃんのラー油入り醤油仕立て坦坦麺「らーたん」。僕と美香子は辛いもの好きで絵を見る限り良さそうなカップ麺と思った。

The soup looks real spicy but for us we thought it could use a little more kick.  We still haven't found a cup noodles that surpasses Moukou tanmen Nakamoto for spicyness.

スープは辛そうに見えますが、僕と美香子にとってもっと刺激が欲しいね。やっぱり辛くて美味しいカップ麺の猛攻タンメン中本には勝てないね。

Aomori Miso Curry Milk Ramen Instant Noodle / 青森味噌カレーミルクラーメン

You won't find this particular instant noodle in Tokyo.   A couple of years ago, Aomori was known for a B-gourmet dish known as the Miso Curry Milk Ramen which originated from a ramen shop called Aji no Sapporo.  If you're in Aomori Prefecture, you won't have to go to Aji no Sapporo to enjoy this particular ramen as Maruchan has developed an instant version.

このカップ麺は東京で見つかることはないでしょう。ニ三年前、B級グルメーで有名になった料理が青森で誕生した。それは味噌カレー牛乳ラーメン。発祥の店は青森市にある「味の札幌」。青森に行ったら、あの有名になった味噌カレー牛乳ラーメンは店じゃなく、スーパーでカップ麺が買える様びなってる。

It's not too bad, but nothing beats the real thing at Aji no Sapporo.

悪くはないですが、やっぱり本場の「味の札幌」にはかなわない。

Maruchan Chibi Maruko-chan Nostalgic Shio Ramen / マルちゃん ちびまる子ちゃん ノスタルジック塩ラーメン

Sometimes I find myself buying instant noodles just because of the package. That was the case with this one which features popular Japanese cartoon "Chibi Maruko-chan"

たまにはパッケージが可愛いからつい買ってくるカップ麺。ちびまる子ちゃんの絵があって、それだけで買いました。

I'm not a big fan of shio (salt) flavor but it's nice to eat every now and then.

自分は塩味がそんなに好みじゃないですが、たまには良いね。

Nissin Cup Noodle Pizza Margherita / 日清カップヌードル ピッツアマルゲリータ風ヌードル

A new convenience store just opened down the road from our apartment so now we do not have to cross the really busy road to get some drinks or snacks. The place just opened last Wednesday and I decided to take a peek inside today. The first thing that caught my eye was Nissin Cup Noodle's latest flavors - Pizza Margherita and Chicken au Gratin. As you can see from the above picture, I decided to give the pizza flavored noodles a shot.

うちのアパートに近くに新しいコンビニが開店しました。飲み物やおつまみはが欲しい時にうちの前の大道はもう渡らなくて良い。１０日オーペンしましたが、今日はちょっと覗きに行ってきました。目に入ったのは日清カップヌードルの新作品‐ピッツアマゲリータ風ヌードルとチキングラタン味のものでした。上記の写真を見れば、どっちを選んだを分かるでしょう。

Okay, it wasn't bad. Probably like having your noodles in a bowl of tomato soup. It definitely wasn't as bad as the New England Chowder flavor they released some time back. Probably not a flavor I will buy again, but I just love the novelty of what Nissin comes up with. I will try the chicken au gratin next time.

感想ですか？ま、悪くではない。トマトスープの中に麺が入ってる感じかな。前日清が出したニューイングランドクラムチャウダーよりましですよ。多分今後は買わないと思いますが、次はチキングラタン味のやつを食べてみる。

Nissin no Tongarashi-men / 日清のとんがらし麺

It's been a while since I featured some instant noodles, so here's another one I tried a few months ago. This is Nissin's Tongarashi-men (or Red Pepper Ramen made with African Hot Chili in a chicken broth). It says "very spicy" on the label and also comes with a chili sauce to add to as well.

久しぶりのカップ麺紹介です。今回は日清のとんがらし麺。激辛も書いてあるし、唐辛子ソース付きです。アフリカンホットチリ入りでチキン風味。

Looks delicious and tasted delicious as well, but not as spicy as the label made it out to be (or maybe I'm just too used to eating spicy foods).

美味しそうに見えるし、実際に美味しかった、でも激辛ほどの辛さは感じなかった。もしかして自分が辛いものに慣れ過ぎたかも。

Ramen Salad / ラーメンサラダ

I love going to the convenience store in the summer. You never know what kind of new products they may have. I was curious about this the last time I went but didn't get around to buying it. However, my wife bought it for the following day, knowing I like ramen and also knowing that I like trying new things. This is a ramen salad! Yep, there are ramen noodles under all those veggies! Quite delicious and refreshing for a hot Tokyo summer.

夏でコンビニ行くの楽しい。どうゆう新作が出るのが楽しみ。この間行ったら、ラーメンサラダがあった。ちょっと気になってたが、その時は買いませんでした。翌日、うちの嫁が買ってくれた。僕が気になってたと知って、それにラーメン大好きなので、食べたいだろうと思ってたみたい。本当にあの野菜の下に麺が入ってるよ。さっぱりして、美味しい。夏にもってこいラーメンだな。

Moukotanmen Nakamoto "Hiyashi Niku Janmen" / 蒙古タンメン 中本 「冷やし肉醤麺」

One of our favorite noodle shops (which, in our opinion, also makes the best tasting cup noodles), Moukotanmen Nakamoto, has produced a ramen perfect for a hot Tokyo summer. It's a cold tsukemen (noodles that you dip in broth) called "Hiyashi Nikujanmen". Moukotanmen Nakamoto is known for their really spicy ramen, but it seems they have decided to limit the spicyness of this ramen.

私たちが好きなラーメン屋「蒙古タンメン中本」が夏の為にぴったりのラーメンをプロデュースしました。その名は“冷やし肉醤麺（にくじゃんめん）”のつけ麺である。蒙古タンメンの特徴は辛さ！でもこのラーメンは辛さおさえめになってます。

When you open the package, you must take out the small bowl, which is for the broth. Add the meat, corn, and green onions to the broth. Then dip the noodles in the broth and eat.

日本人はこうゆうの慣れてるから説明不要。

Hachioji Ramen / 八王子ラーメン

My neighborhood convenient store produced another instant noodle I just had to try. This time it was something called Hachioji Ramen, Hachioji being the name of a town located right outside of Tokyo.

近所のコンビニが新たなラーメンをプロデュースした。今回は八王子ラーメン。

Ooh, I like the use of a lot of onions. The soup is soy sauce based and its quite simple with a slice of pork and menma. The noodles are fairly thick and makes for a filling snack.

大量に使ったオニオンが良いね。スープは醤油ベースでチャーシューとメンマ入り。麺もうちょっと太いほうで小腹が空いた時に良いかも。

Ippei-chan Omori Yomise Yakisoba / 一平ちゃん 大盛 夜店の焼そば

To be honest, I have a lot of things to write about but haven't made the time to sit down and write anything, so today's post is another instant noodle I recently tried.

正直と言えますと、書くネタが溜まってます、でも書く時間が作ってない為、なんにも書いてません。そうゆことで、今日はまた僕が大好きなインスタントの麺紹介します。

I was a little nervous about using the mayonaisse that came with this noodle but I figured if I didn't use it, I wouldn't be eating the actual Ippei-chan yakisoba. It's not bad but I think I like my yakisoba without the mayo.

からしマヨネーズ使うのはちょっとやだったが、付いてるから、使ったほうが本当の一平ちゃん夜店焼きそばになると思って、使用しました。個人的にはやっぱマヨなしの焼きそばが好き。青のりで十分。

Maruchan White Curry Noodles with Cheese / マルちゃん ホワイトカレーヌードル とろーりチーズ味

I thought I would share with you my continuing adventures of trying the different kinds of instant noodles that are available in Japan. Today's flavor is a white curry with cheese.

食べてまだまだ紹介してないカップ麺が山ほどある。今日はマルちゃんのホワイトカレーヌードル（とろーりチーズ味）。




Pretty decent cup noodles, but could use a little more cheese to really call it cheese flavored. Still, as I'm a big fan of curry and cheese - it's a winning combination.

美味しい。でもとろーりチーズ味まで書くならチーズの量をもっとあったほうが良いかも。カレーとチーズ好きな僕には良いコンビと思います。

Nissin Cup Noodle Chili Tomato / 日清チリトマトヌードル

Snack time once again / おやつの時間だ

Not too spicy and tomatoes actually go well with ramen.

そんなにスパシーではないし、トマトもラーメンと合うね。

Acecook Jan Jan Sauce Yakisoba / エースコック ジャンジャン ソース焼きそば

Being a fan of yakisoba, insant or otherwise, when I saw this new product on the shelves of our local convenience store, I knew I had to try it.

焼きそばのファンの僕にとって、手作りかインスタントは関係ない。この間、うちの近くのコンビニにエースコックの新商品、ジャンジャン焼きそばが出たので、もちろん食べるしかないと思いました。

Nice and just a little spicy and a fair amount of noodles to make you full. Perfect for an afternoon snack.

ちょっとスパイシーで量も結構あって、満腹になります。小腹が減った時にちょうど良いかも。

Nong Shim Korean Kimchee Ramen / Nong Shim 韓国キムチラーメン

As we were out walking, we dropped in at a Don Quixote store (there like the Target of Japan) and found a couple of Korean cup noodles. For lunch the other day, I decided to try the Korean Kimchee ramen.

この間の散歩の途中、ドン・キオーテに行って韓国のカップ麺を発見。ランチに韓国キムチラーメンを食べた。


Not as spicy as thought it was going to be, but still, not bad.

もっと辛いと思ったら、そうでもなかった。でも、悪くはなかった。

Men Dokoro I no Sho [Kara Kara Uo] / 麺処 井の庄 「辛辛魚（からからうお）」

Mikako had tried this herself and said it was pretty spicy and figured that I would enjoy it as well. Although she did say it doesn't surpass Mouko Tanmen produced by Nakamoto Ramen Shop.

美香子がこの間これを食べてみたと言ってたんで、かなり辛いから僕も好きなんだろうと思って買ってくれた。でも中本の蒙古タンメンには勝ってないと言った。

Definitely spicy, with a fish-based broth. And only comes with a bit of onions and two slices of seaweed. It wasn't bad, but it was no Mouko Tanmen.

確かに辛い。ダシも魚系。グーがあんまり入ってない。普通に美味しいけどやっぱ蒙古タンメンのレベルではない。

Nissin Yakisoba U.F.O. Big / 日清焼そば U.F.O. Big

The variety of instant noodles I introduced has spawned my mother to call me to ask me to send her a random package of what Mikako and I think are great instant noodles. Apparently the choices are pretty limited in my home town of Tacoma. Today's choice is Nissin Yakisoba - U.F.O. Big. By the way, I was watching television last night and the subject of the program was the best instant noodles as chosen from 10,000 people (the choices did not include limited items or items produced by well-known ramen shops). I found out what the U.F.O. stood for on these noodles (even if the package does say Unidentified Flying Object). It stands for Umai, Futoi, Oishii! Which translates to Delicious! Fat! or Thick! for the thickness of the noodles and Delicious! Yep, umai and oishii pretty much mean the same thing. Maybe the person who said it was mistaken. Who knows, what matters is that the yakisoba is delicious!

いろんなカップ麺を紹介したら、僕のアメリカに住んでるお母さんがわざわざ日本に電話して、“Youたちが美味しいと思うカップ麺いろいろ送ってちょうだい”と頼まれました。うちの母さん本当に「Youたち」とか言いますよ。うちの実家のほうはカップ麺のチョイスがあんまりないらしい。今日紹介するのは「日清焼そば U.F.O. BIG」。見た通り大盛りになってます。麺がなんと１３０ｇ。そ言えば、昨日テレビでなんかの番組を見たら、一万人が選んだ美味しいカップ麺と特集をやってた。それでU.F.O.の意味が分かった。ウマイ！フトイ！オイシイ！とゆう意味らし。本当がどうか分かりませんが。とにかくこの焼きそばは美味しい！それだけです。

Santouka Tonkotsu Shio Ramen / 山頭火 とんこつ塩らーめん

Microwavable ramen from 7-11? Can it be delicious? Can it really be the same as the ramen shop that produced it? Well, I can answer two of the three questions. Yes, its available at 7-11 for presumably a limited time. As far it having the same flavor as the ramen shop that produced it, this I cannot answer as I haven't been to one of their shops yet, even though I did discover that there is one in Shibuya. This product was a collaboration between the ramen shop [Santouka] and 7-11.

レンジで出来るラーメン？ 美味しいの？ 店舗の味と一緒？ ま～３問の中２問は簡単に答える。本当にレンジで出来るラーメンです。コンビニで買える。結構美味しいです。店の味と一緒かどうかが答えません。なぜならば、そのラーメン屋は行ってません。ネットで調べたら渋谷にも店舗があります。この商品はラーメンの名店「山頭火」とコンビニの７－１１がコラボしたものです。

Just pop into the microwave for five and half minutes!

そのままレンジで５分入れるだけ！

It's almost hard to believe you can enjoy a delicious tasting ramen just by popping into the microwave. The flavor is a lightly salted tonkotsu (pork broth). What is unusual is the addition of a plum (you don't find that much in any ramen). The noodles are nice and thick and the ramen includes char-shiu, naruto, and some other veggies.

レンジで美味しいラーメンがいただけるなんて贅沢ですね。味はとんこつ塩味。珍しいのはラーメンに梅が入ってる。麺はちょっと太麺で僕好み。チャーシューとナルト入りで結構美味しいです。

Nissin Santouka Asahikawa Tonkotsu Shio Aji / 日清 山頭火 とんかつ塩味

Once again I decided to try an instant noodle that was produced by an actual ramen shop. This time from the ramen shop in Asahikawa called [Santouka]. This ramen is also a salted tonkotsu (pork-based broth) ramen. Although tonkotsu originated in Kyushu, Asahikawa is a city in Hokkaido.

今日もまた有名店のラーメン屋がプロデゥースしたカップ麺を食べてみた。北海道旭川の「山頭火」。こちろのラーメンもとんこつです。とゆうよりとんこつ塩味のラーメン。

Me, being a fan of tonkotsu ramen enjoyed this one as well.

とんこつラーメン好きの僕ではこれも美味しくいただいきました。
