Tokyo Flashback : Luke's Lobster / 東京フラッシュバック：ルークス・ロブスター

My wife and I were watching television one day and we saw this piece on a new fast food place that opened in Harajuku. The place was called [Luke's Lobster] and was the latest in Tokyo's gourmet scene. We went the following weekend. Oh my, this was one of the few times that my wife and I stood in line for over an hour and a half just to eat some food.

僕と妻がテレビを見てたらなんかの番組で日本初上陸の店が紹介されました。それがロブスターサンド専門店の「ルークス・ロブスター」。一号店は原宿でオープンした。私たちは食べ物について結構ミーハーなので次の休日原宿に行きました。初めてかも知りませんが、私たちは一時間以上列に並びました。

This is the menu. Of course we ordered the lobster roll from the US and yes, that price does say ￥1,580.

もちろん一番うえのロブスターロール（アメリカ）のやつを注文した。値段が１，５８０円。

And here it is - the lobster roll! Sure, it was delicious but a little expensive. The worst thing though was that it didn't fill us up at all so after we had our sandwiches, we went to a ramen shop to get more sustenance!

はい、これです。ま、ちょっと高かったけど美味しい。でも見る通りおなかいっぱいにはなりません。僕と妻は同じ意見だった。もの足りない。ロブスターロールを食べたあと、すぐ近くのラーメン屋に入り、ラーメンを食べた！

C'est Moi! / セ モア

After having a glass of wine with olives at OTTO, I continued my walk.  I was headed towards home when I stumbled upon this little place called [C'est Moi!] which serves frizzas.  What's a frizza?  A pizza fritter or I suppose a simpler explanation would be a miniature calzone.  The variety of frizzas are pretty diverse.  I decided to treat myself to a spicy frizza which is served with minced meat, tomato and mozzarella cheese along with a lot of spices to give it that kick.  I'm sure you're all wondering the same thing I was when I first came upon this place.  Why is the name of the shop French but the colors below are that of Italy.  The answer was simple.  The food is mostly Italian but the owner learned his chops in France.

OTTOでワインを飲んだあと、また散歩に戻りました。そろそろうちに帰ろうとおもったが、また気になる店を発見。三軒茶屋で二年前に出来た「セ モア！」です。この店の代表料理はフリッザ。 フリッザってなに？それはピザのフリッタです。簡単に説明するとミニカルゾーネと言っても良い。フリッザのバラエティも豊富です。自分が選んだのはフリッザ スパイシー。食べログでこういうふうに説明されてます：ぴりっとくる辛さがクセになる。香辛料をきかせた挽肉、ｵﾘｼﾞﾅﾙ辛味ソース、イタリアのトマト、モッツァレラ。 みんな気になる所もう一つあるでしょ。店の名前はフランス語なのになぜイタリアの国旗の色が下にある。答えは料理はイタリアンですが、オーナーがフランスで修業してったってことです。

Although this is a fast food place, the shop does have a small terrace where you can relax and eat as well.

The terrace is like a small picnic area.  I had the entire place to myself that day.

ピクニックをする場所みたで最適。この日は貸切状態でした。

This is a frizza.  Regular size is only 450yen.  You can order a big size for 850yen.

Soup Stock Tokyo

After all the earthquake, tsunami, fire, and nuclear accident news, I thought I would return with something a little more pleasant - food! Before I wandered around Osaki, it was lunch time and I had been wanting to try some of the soups from this place. Nothing like a hot bowl of soup on a cold day! I ordered the soup set which means you get to choose two different kinds of soups and also includes some bread. Today, I went with a couple of tomato sauce flavored soups - the Atlantic lobster, tomato and potherb bisque along with the tomato stew with chicken and vegetables. I gotta tell ya, they were both mighty tasty. I must go again soon!

地震、津波、火災、原発事故のニュースばっかりで、今回は元気で明るくなるネタに戻ります。それはもちろん食べ物です！大崎周辺に散歩する前にちょうど昼だったもんで、結構前から食べに行きたかった店はこの「Soup Stock Tokyo」。寒い日にスープはもってこい食べ物と思はない？スープセットがありまして、二種類のスープを選べる。そしてパン付です。今日選んだスープはオマール海老のビスクと野菜と鶏肉のトマトシチュー。や～両方はとっても美味しかった。また行きたくなりますよ。

メニューに書かれたことは「オマール海老の濃厚な出汁の旨みと、トマト、香味野菜が溶け合った、贅沢な味わいのスープです。ミルクでまろやかに仕上げました。」

Tomato stew with chicken and vegetables / 野菜と鶏肉のトマトシチュー

メニューを読むと「トマトの酸味をミルクでまろやかに仕上げた濃厚なシチューです。ソーテした鶏肉、生クリーム、きのこを加えた深い味わいと食べ応えを楽しみ下さい。」

Nikkun Roll R29 / ニックンロール R29

I thought I would give you all a break from posts about music, books, or movies for a change and fill you in on a new kind of fast food that's rapidly becoming popular in Tokyo. On a cloudy Sunday without any specific plans, the wife and I decided to take a stroll around Shimokitazawa. It was Halloween and there were a number of kids dressed in costumes trick-or-treating at a bunch of different stores located in the market area that were participating in the event. After a little walking and a little shopping, and then it was time for a little snack. The fast food I mentioned earlier is a riceball wrapped with meat and originated in Kyushu. You also have a choice of toppings to choose from such as kimchee or cheese or tomato cheese or for a limited time you could choose gobo (burdock root) or takana (leaf mustard). I chose the tomato cheese while Mikako chose the kimchee. However, we ordered our nikkun-rolls to go and enjoyed them at home.

最近のネタは音楽と本と映画ばっかりだったので、今回はみんなが好きな食べ物ネタです。日曜日は曇ってが、うちの近くでお散歩に出かけました。下北沢に行ってまいりました。今日もハロウィーンだったので、コスチュームを着てる子供たちが大勢居た。商店街の店何軒にトリック・オア・トリートをやってた。子供たち可愛かったな。ちょっと歩いて、ちょっと買いものして、ちょっと小腹空いて、最近の流行りの九州生まれのファーストフード、肉巻きを食べに行った。下北に「ニックンロール R29」とゆう店があります。ここが肉巻きおにぎりの専門店。普通の肉巻もあれば、いろんなトッピングされてる肉巻もある。たとえば、チーズか、トマトチーズか、キムチ。あと期間限定でゴボウと高菜もありました。僕はトマトチーズを選んで、美香子はキムチを。持ち帰りで頼んで、家に帰ってから食べました。美味しかったけど、やっぱり出来立てで食べるべきですね。
