Belgian White Beer Style [Shiro Nigori] / ベルギホワイトビールスタイル 「白濁」

What do you mean this beer is upside down?  It is not!

This beer is called Shiro Nigori.  As you can see on the can, it is a Belgian White.  The can says the beer becomes more flavorful as it is set upside down.  But it doesn't say why.  Oh well, who cares.  It tastes good!  Of course I really enjoy Belgian Whites.

これは白濁（しろにごり）というビールです。缶に書かれたように、ベルギのホワイトビールです。おいしく飲んでいただくために缶を上下逆さにしてます。どういう風においしくなるのか書かれてないのが疑問に思います。ま、それはどうでもいい。僕はベルキのホワイトビールは好きだから。

Cervera Zaragozana Spanish Premium Beer

Yet, another light post.  My wife knows that I love trying different kinds of beer so when I got home and found this in the fridge, I was pretty excited.  I have never tried this beer.  Cervera Zaragozana Spanish Premium Beer.  I have been drinking different kinds of beer, I just haven't been writing about them on my blog, but have been posting them on Facebook.  Anyway, this beer tastes like your standard lager.  Not bad.

今日は軽いネタ。僕がビール好きなので、今夜帰ったら、冷蔵庫の中にCervera Zaragozanaというスペイン産ビールが入ってました。さすが僕の妻。飲んだことないビールを飲んでみるのが好きと分かって買ってくれました。最近はいろんなビールを飲み比べしてますが、個人ブログには書いてないだけです。自分のFacebookページには良くアップしてますが。これは普通のラーガの味をするビールです。

Premium Ebisu

Just a fun little post about another favorite subject of mine - beer!!  My blogger friend asked where was the beer from the can in the last post which reminded of the latest beer I actually did buy.  Yebisu is very popular but does the name on the bottom of the can ring a bell?  If you're a foodie you will immediately know who it is.  Kind of hard to see on the picture but it says Joel Robuchon!!  Yes, that Joel Robuchon!  Celebrity chef Robuchon has collaborated with Yebisu beer.  I'm sad to admit that I still haven't been to the Robuchon restaurant in Ebisu or the more reasonably price Robuchon Atelier in Roppongi (but I will sometime in the near future).  Now the taste.  Well - it wasn't bad, but it wasn't spectacular either, although the design of the can is nice.

本日は気軽に書いたネタ。缶詰料理で僕のブログの読者が缶ビールはと聞き、この間買ったビールを思い出した。プレミアムエビスなんですが、缶の写真でちょっと見にくいと思いますが、誰かの名前は書いてませんか？よく見るとあの有名なチェフ、ジョエル・ロブションではないか。そうなんです。ロブションがエビスビールとコラボしてます。考えてるみるとロブションのメインのレストランも恵比寿にもあるね。残念なことに私はまだそのレストランに一度も行ったことないんです。六本木にあるロブション・アテリエも行ってないな。いつかは絶対行ってみたい。で、ビールの味ですが、悪くないけど超美味しいという感じもしなかった。普通に美味しい。缶のデザインは可愛いけど、それがゥ売りだったりして。

Suntory Stones Bar [Rolling Gold] / スントリー・ストーンズ・バー 「ローリング・ゴルド」

Ah yes, I found one of the other drinks in the limited edition Suntory / Rolling Stones special collaboration drink.  Rolling Gold - more like a California Cooler (wine spritzer or chu-hi) to give you an idea of the taste.  One of my local supermarkets had it in stock!  Meh, nothing to write home about but it makes for great blog fodder!

あっ、スントリーとローリングストーンズコラボの酒また発見。“ローリング・ゴルド”。チューハイみたいな感じですよ。 味は普通ですが、ラベルは良いね。これはコンビニではなく、うちの近くにあるスーパーで見つかった。ブログネタでは良いでしょう。

Kirin Ice + Beer / キリンアイスプラスビール

Tokyo summers are hot and humid, so why not cool off with something new that Kirin beer has released - Ice + Beer.  On the can, it actually says ale to drink with ice!  Ice in a glass of beer?  Almost unheard of.  Why do I say almost.  There was once instance in which I gave in to my impulse because I couldn't stand the taste of warm Beer Lao!  Yes, it was in Laos where I first drank a glass a beer with ice (and it was worth it!).  So, did I drink this beer with ice as it says.  Well, there are directions on the back of this can that tells you how you're supposed to drink it.  To humor Kirin, I followed directions!

東京の夏は暑くて湿気も多い。そんな時、キリンが出した新しビール飲んでみてはいかがでしょう。商品名は「Ice + Beer」 アイスプラスビール。缶にも書かれてますが、“氷で飲むエールビール”。ビールに氷？まさか！ほぼあり得ないでしょう。なぜ私が“ほぼ”と言ったことに理由がある。実は一回だけ自分が飲んでたビールに氷を入れたことがあるからです。でも本当に必要だった。温いビールラオは最悪！ビールラオ？そう、僕が旅行でラオスに行ったことがあって、仲良くになった現地の人たちと飲みに行って、ビールが温すぎて、氷を出してくれたんですよ。東南アジアの水は心配でしたが、やっぱりビールは冷えて飲むものだ。でも、ここは日本。本当このビールは氷で飲むの？缶の後ろ側に飲みの説明が４個漫画で描かれてるので、そのままにしました。

As my Japanese friends will need to translation, let me just translate the comic in English.

The taste?  Actually pretty good.  You really don't need to add the ice if it's been chilled in the fridge though.

Sapporo x Fujiya Nectar Sour Sparkling Peach / 札幌 ｘ 不二家 ネクターサワー スパークリング ピーチ

This was yet another freebie the wife brought home one day.  I'm really not cocktail person (excluding sours) and after a few sips of this I was reminded why!  This is just too damn sweet.  It almost reminds me of Snapple (which I used to love but now cannot bear to drink because of its sweetness).  But the design on the can is pretty cool!

これも嫁が貰って持って帰った酒。自分もあんまりカックテールは飲まないので、これを飲んだらその理由が浮かび上がった。これって、甘い！！甘すぎるわ！アメリカのスナップル（Snapple) と同じ位の甘さ。僕、昔スナップル大好きだったんだけど日本の生活が長すぎたかも。なぜと言えば、ある時実家に帰って久しぶりにスナップルを飲んだら、甘過ぎて、結構残してた。缶のデザインは可愛いけどね。

Suntory Horoyoi Chu-Hi Grape Sour / サントリー ほろよい チューハイ ぶどうサワー

Just consider this another commercial for the various alcoholic drinks that are available in Japan.  Oh, and I have to wake up early tomorrow so I thought I would post a short blog piece.  I like these series of chu-hi.  The first one I had was there Iced Tea Sour.  Being a big fan of iced tea, I couldn't go wrong with an iced-tea flavored sour.  I also love grape juice and grape soda so I was sure I would like this grape sour.  And hey, only 3% alcohol.

日本のお酒のCMと思えば良いです。明日も朝早いので、手短のネタを書くことにした。サントリーのほろよいシリーズ僕は実に好きです。最初に飲んだのはアイスティサワ。アイスティが好きな僕には最高でしたね。グレープジュースとグレープソーダーも好きなので、ぶどうサワーも絶対好きに決まってるでしょう。アロコール３％だから飲みすぎなければ本当にほろ酔いだけになるでしょう。ま、一杯だったらほとんど酔わないけど。

Jikashibori Can Chu-Hi / 直搾り南イタリア産レモン チューハイ

I usually don't drink at home but one day Mikako brought a bunch of alcoholic beverages that was given to her by a co-worker.  And since Mikako is not much of a drinker and its been a while since I've featured any beers or spirits I thought I would take this opportunity to do so.  What is chu-hi?  Its pretty much shochu with some kind of mix.  This one is made with lemon from Southern Italy. 

うちでほとんど晩酌はしませんが、ちょっと前に美香子が大量にいろんなお酒を貰いました。美香子はあんまり飲まないので、僕が久しぶりに家で飲んだ。ま、家に飲んだと言っても、一杯だけですからね。最初にいただいたのは直搾り南イタリアレモンのチューハイ。自分はビールの次に好きなのはレモンチューハイかも知りませんので、結構良かった。

Maui Brewing Company / マウイ島の地ビール

There's nothing like having a cold beer while on vacation and most of you know that I love trying different craft beers.  I'm still working my way through the microbrews of all 47 Prefectures of Japan.  I think I'm still a little less than half-way through on that project.  So of course I had to go in search of any craft beers on Maui.  And what do you know, at the little supermarket near the condo, I discovered three different kinds of craft beers from the Maui Brewing Co.

バカンスの時で一つの楽しみがのんびりして冷たいビール飲むことですね。自分は地ビール好きで、どこか行ったら、必ずその場所の地ビールがあるかどうかをチェックする。今でも日本の４７の都道府県の地ビールを飲むのがまだ達成してない。ハワイに行ってもやっぱりスーパーで地ビールがあるかどうか見てみる。そしたらマウイ・ブルーウィング・カンパニーの３種類の地ビールを発見。

So I bought a six-pack that had two each of the three types of beers they make - Big Swell IPA (India Pale Ale for the uninformed), Bikini Blonde Lager, and CoCoNut Porter which I of course shared with my humble host and finally called an end to our first night in Hawaii at around 2:30am.

ってことでで、スーパーで６缶（２種類づつ）を買った。ビッグ・スェール・インディア・ペール・エール、ビキニ・ブロンド・ラーガー、とココナッツ・ポーター。友達と夜中まで語りあって、ハワイの初日は朝二時半で幕を閉じた。

I started off with the CoCoNut Porter because I like dark beers.  For a Porter, it wasn't very dark but still quite tasty.  As you can see at the bottom of the can, this beer is brewed with hand-toasted coconut.  Interesting.  As to the "...LIKE HOT CHICKS ON THE BEACH", amusing.

最初に飲んだのはココナッツ・ポーター。ポーターなのに、凄く黒いわけでもないは不思議。でも美味しいは美味しいからそれは許す。缶の下に書かれてる文書を読むと、材料にココナッツも入ってる。



The next beer I tried was the Big Swell IPA, that's India Pale Ale as I mentioned earlier.  You gotta love the pictures on the can.  Very Hawaiian.  The ale is a little lighter than the porter, but like it says on the can, very hoppy!  A nice way to run down the evening.

次はビッグ・スェールIPA（インディア・ペール・エール）。缶に描いてる絵が気に入った。超ハワイ風だ。エールはポーターより軽いが、ホップスは結構効いてます。寝る前のビールって最高ですね。

And finally, I had the Bikini Blonde Lager.  Being a lager, this is pretty much your standard beer.  Aren't the pictures on the cans great?

最後飲んだのはビキニ・ブロンド・ラーガー。ラーガーなので、スタンダードの味わいな感じがする。缶の絵は最高でしょう？

Nihonshu from Nigata Prefecture / 新潟県の日本酒

Delicious Nihon-shu from Niigata Prefecture. I didn't realize they were available in this size. This was given to me by courtesy from one of my regular blog readers. Asahiyama is a favorite of mine. While the Hakkaisan was recommended by the reader. I shall enjoy one of this weekend.

新潟県から美味しい日本酒です。このサイズがあるのは知りませんでした。私のブログの読者から貰いました。嬉しいですね。朝日山は大好きです。読者のおすすめが隣にある八海山。今度の休日に飲もうかな。

Irish break / アイルランドのビール

Our local market was stocked with Kilkenny Beer so I decided to treat myself to an Irish break.
And just so you know, I don't drink at home everyday so don't worry.

ギネスも良いですが、たまには別のアイルランドビールも飲みたくなるんで、今回はキルケニーを飲みました。毎日飲んでないのご安心して下さい。
