Asakusa Ebisu Gyoza / 浅草 恵比寿餃子

Yes, we're in Asakusa in front of Kaminarimon that leads to Sensoji.  But this is not our main reason for coming (as we've been here many times).

はい、また浅草雷門前に来てます。でも今日ここは目的地ではございません（数えきれないほどここに来てます、飽きないよね、浅草）。

Since we're in Asakusa, we shall walk along Nakamise and give our offerings at Sensoji.

せっかく浅草に来てますので、仲見世に歩いて、浅草寺にお参り。

Okay okay, now for the nature of this post.  We went to Asakusa to bet on horses with our friends Yukio and Reiko.  And Yukio told us one of the best spots to hang out while betting and watching the races on a monitor was at Asakusa Ebisu Gyoza!  Love my gyoza so who am I to complain?

はいはい、今回のネタの本題い行きます。浅草にある浅草寺は目的じゃないと先伝えましたね。本当の目的は。。。競馬！ 友達の誘いで浅草の昼から馬券を買って、飲みながら、モニターで競馬を見る！ 友達が最適な店があると言って、来たのは「浅草 恵比寿餃子」。餃子大好きなので、文句なし。

Is this a great atmosphere or what?

The gyoza here was so good.  They make their own sauce to top the gyoza with - delicious!

この店の餃子は絶品だ。店特製のタレもあって、とっても美味しい！


But this restaurant doesn't serve just gyoza.  There are quite a few other items on their menu.

Gyoza Stadium / 餃子スタジアム

After showing Bryan around some Tokyo sites, it was time for lunch. Mikako met up with in Shibuya, and then it was off to the Gyoza Stadium in Ikebukuro. I keep telling my brother about this place, but he has yet to set foot on these shores again - even though he would be in gyoza heaven (and yes, he loves gyoza!). There may have only been the three of us but we still tried at least ten different kinds of gyoza and one Peking dog (that would be a hot dog bun filled with Peking duck!). And because there was only the three of us, we managed to try the gyoza of five of the eleven stores currently featured.

ブライアンと一緒に東京見物したあと、昼頃美香子が私たちと合流、いざ池袋へ。目的地は餃子スタジアム。自分の兄貴がここぜったい行きたくなると思うが、いつまた日本に来るか？兄貴は大の餃子ファンでここはまさに餃子天国。今回は私たち三人だけだったが、それでも１０種類以上の餃子を食べました。あと北京ドッグも（ホットドッグに北京ダックが入ってるもの）。 たったの三人なので、１１店舗の中５店舗の餃子しか食べられなかった。

We actually tried one other gyoza from Antei but I either forgot to take a picture or have mistakenly deleted it, it was your standard gyoza.

The last few times I've been to the Gyoza Stadium it was usually crowded. But if you have the chance, you should go on a weekday afternoon as there is hardly any crowds at all.

何回も餃子スタジアムに行ったことがありますが、いつも込んでて、待ち時間も長い。出来れば、平日の昼に行ってみたらかなり空いてますよ。

After eating all that gyoza, we needed something sweet as well so we head off to Ice Cream City. But as we were already full to begin with, we only had one ice cream each.

餃子を食べまくったあとにあっさりしたものが食べたくなった。それでアイスクリームシティのほうに行きました。私たちはもう満腹だったので、アイスは一種類しか食べられなかった。

Tokyo Gyoza / 東京餃子

Here's a little shop that my brother would love. The main items on the menu are gyoza and gyoza! Well, okay - fried gyoza and wanton. Actually there are other items but not really enough to make a decent meal. Excellent place for a snack.

この店は自分の兄貴が超好きそう。メニューのメインアイテムは餃子と餃子です。正しくは焼き餃子と水餃子です。他の物もありますが、メインが餃子なので、小腹が空いた時にもってこいの店です。

王将 / Oushou

I'm back, this time to tell you about a little chain restaurant that I would definitely take my brother to if he can ever find himself flying across the big blue water. The restaurant is called Oushou. You see, my bro, he's a big fan of gyoza (you're not going to make me use the old Americanized pot-stickers are ya?). Of course not. Anyway, when we were little, I used to hate gyoza. I thought it was one of the nastiest foods ever. Then I became an adult and moved to Tokyo. Now, I can't live without my gyoza. It's almost a given that you would order some with your ramen. Anyway, Oushou is a pretty much a fast-food Chinese outlet. Not like McD's mind you. I used to always order the gyoza set which came with six pieces of gyoza (which is a one person serving at this restaurant), plus a bowl of rice, a small plate of kimchee, soup, and a croquette (it used to be served with a couple of chicken nuggets). However, after being diagnosed with diabetes, I now split the one-person serving of gyoza with my wife. That means just 3 pieces! But what I usually order when I go to Oushou is the buta-kimu plate (sauteed pork and kimchee) with a bowl of rice and gyoza.

また戻りましたよ。今度の話は僕が好きなチェーン店を紹介しようと思います。自分の兄貴が日本に来れたら、絶対この店に連れて行ってあげたい。店の名前は王将。実は、俺の兄貴は大の餃子ファンなんです。（もうアメリカのださいポットスティッカという言葉は使いませんよ）。子供の頃俺は餃子大嫌いでした。これは食い物と言えるかって？大人になってから、東京に住むことになり、今は餃子無しの生活は考えられない。ラーメンと一緒に注文するのは当たり前になった。とりあえず、王将は中華のファストフードのような感じの店です。ま、マックとはまた違いますけど。昔はいつも餃子定食を注文してました。そのセットに一人前の餃子（6個）、キムチ、ごはん、スープ、とコロッケが付いてます（昔は唐揚げだった）。でも糖尿になってから、餃子一人前は美香子と半分わけをしています。餃子3個しか食べない。でも最近行くといつも注文するのは豚キムと普通盛りのごはんと餃子。

美味しいそうでしょう？

And when my brother and his wife do eventually come to visit Tokyo, I also want to take them to the Gyoza Stadium in Ikebukuro. Of course, I will probably eat more than three pieces of gyoza there.

で、いつか兄貴夫妻が東京に来たら、池袋にある餃子スタジアムにも連れて行ってあげたい。その時、自分は3個以上の餃子を食べるでしょう。
