Tokyo Flashbacks : New Year Welcoming Party 2014 / 東京フラッシュバック ：新年会 ２０１４年

There are a lot of Japanese traditions I enjoy. A couple of my favorites are the bonenkai and the shinnenkai. The bonenkai is a party held in December to celebrate the end of another year. The shinnnenkai while usually celebrated in January, is a party to welcome in the new year. However, my friends and I had a very late shinnenkai as it was held in April! One of our friends was the owner and chef of restaurant called [Utou] in Ushigome Kagurazaka and this is where we had our new year welcoming party.

日本の伝統やと独特なやり方が好き。得に好きなのは年末の忘年会と新しい年の新年会。今年僕と僕の友達は結構遅れた新年会をやりました。新年会は大体一月で行うが、今年、私たちが４月で新宴会を開きました！私たちの友達の一人は牛込神楽坂で日本料理店のシェフ・オーナーがいて、彼の店で新宴会を開いた。店の名前は「善知鳥」。

彼は私たちのために結構働いてた。

A bowl of mozuku (seaweed seasoned with vinegar) and topped with crab.

The beer, wine and Nihon-shu was flowing as well.

ビール、ワインと日本酒もよく飲みました。

Walking back to the station after the party, we stopped at this shrine.

駅に戻る途中、この神社に立ち寄りました。

And although it was already April, so it was the start of a new year!

そして、４月なんですが、新年が始まりました！

Tokyo Flashback : Return of the American Tourist / 東京フラッシュバック：アメリカ人観光客リターンズ

The American tourist was only in Tokyo for a day as he was headed to Taiwan for the major part of his vacation. However, we met up and went out and had some sweets in Shibuya.

アメリカの観光客はトランジットで東京滞在は一日程度だったかな。これから彼は台湾行きです。ま、渋谷であってスイーツを食べに行った。

Tokyo Flashbacks : Hawaiian Barbecue with new co-workers / 東京フラッシュバック：新職場の飲み会、ハワイアンバビキュー

Leaving Tower Records after working their for over twenty years, I immediately started working for a new company - Costco Japan. I started at the end of May. I got to know a few people, so when summer came along, one of my new co-workers planned to go to a Hawaiian Beer Garden located on the roof of a building at Kawasaki station which is only open for the short summer season. It is called the [Aloha Table].

タワーレコードを辞めて、すぐ転職しました。新しい職場は川崎にあるコストコジャパンホールセール。５月に入社して、新しい人々と出会えました。夏が来て、誰か川崎の駅ビルの屋上のハワイアンビールガーデンで会社の飲み会を開きました。夏の時期、アトレの６階に期間限定で営業してる店「アロハ・テーブル」に行きました。

新同僚の人々。

Although it was a very good paying job with great benefits, I was not suited to working in front of a computer. I stuck it out for three years before moving on to new pastures.

良い会社で良い人たちの出会いましたが、やっぱり管理職には向いてませんでした。毎日パソコンの前で仕事するのは辛かった。３年間も頑張りましたが、やっぱり、いくら良い給料を貰っても、精神的に辛かったので、退職しました。その後、東京から青森市に引っ越して、また新しい人生を歩むことに決心した。
