Tokyo Flashback : Laos Festival 2015 / 東京フラッシュバック：ラオスフェスティバル ２０１５年

Every year my friends and I used to get together for the Thai Festival. Unfortunately, in recent years, the Thai Festival has become so popular that it has become a headache to find a space to sit and enjoy the food and drink. It is so crowded that it also gives you a headache. This year, we all decided to get together at the Laos Festival which was held just a week after the Thai Festival. As Laos is a neighboring country of Thailand, most of the food booths would be the same. The only difference is it won't be as crowded. 

毎年僕と僕友達が代々木公園で開催するタイフェスで集まります。でも最近タイフェスが人気過ぎて、超混むの。場所取りも大変だし、人が多すぎて、頭痛にもなる。食べて飲んでることがエンジョイ出来ない。だから今年の集まりはタイフェスの一週間後に開催するラオスフェスにしました。ラオスはタイの隣の国なので、出る店も先週とほぼ一緒。違ってくるのはフェスの混む具合。

It's still about 9:30 or 10:00 in the morning and as you can see it isn't so crowded. 

今は９時半か１０時くらいなので、見てるとおりあんまり混んでない。

The first order of business is to seek out a spot where we can spend the rest of the day. We piced out a space in front of one of the park benches. 

最初にやることはやっぱり場所取りですね。今日はベンチの前のスペースを確保。

The next thing to do is to check out the various food booths. 

次やることはどういう屋台が出てるの探索する。

Okay, I see the flag of Laos so we should be able to get some Laotian food here. 

ラオスの旗があるということでここにラオ料理が買えるね。

We can get a combination Lao / Thai plate here. 

ここでラオとタイ料理プレートが買える。

Another Lao booth. Sabaidi is a greeting in the Lao language. 

これもラオスの屋台。サバイディはラオ語の挨拶。

This will of course be one of the first booths we go to. The booth selling Beer Lao. 

これが一番最初に行く屋台でしょう。もちろん今日はビールラオをいっぱい飲むぞ！

A dessert booth. We will come to this one after we've had our fill of Lao and Thai cuisine.

Ooh, three types of Beer Lao. I may have to try the gold and dark lager later. 

おう、ビールラオ３種類もある。後でゴールドとダークを飲んでみようかな。

We bought this at the Plathong Asian Food booth. The fried items set which includes lukchin pin (grilled meatballs), Lao-style yakisoba, and Thai sausage. 

焼き物セットはプラトンの屋台で買った。入ってるのはルクチンピン、ラオス焼きそばとタイソーセージ。

We got this ping kai (grilled lemongrass) chicken from the Sabaidi booth. 

サバイディの屋台でピンカイ（鳥焼き）を買った。

Before I eat, I had to drink down a can of Beer Lao. 

料理を食べる前にやっぱりビールラオの最初の一杯で乾杯。

If memory serves me correctly, this was an Isaan sausage. 

記憶が確かならば、これはイサーンソーセージ。

I did say I would be drinking a lot of Beer Lao today. 

ビールラオいっぱい飲むと言ったでしょう。

I believe this is tom yam ramen. 

これは確かトムヤムラーメン。

This is maybe gapao rice (Thai stir-fried chicken with basil). 

もしかしてガパオライスです。

A few more friends are starting to show up. On the left is Tetsu. Lying down is our friend's daughter Rino and to her right is Reiko. 

友達がちょこちょこ現れてる。左はてっちゃん、くつろいでるのは友達の娘の梨乃ちゃん。右にいるの玲ちゃん。

And now for another parade of food.

そして食べ物いろいろ。

Thai satays (chicken skewers). 

タイ風焼き鳥。

Stir-fried morning glory. I love this!

空心菜炒め。俺これ大好き！

Herb chicken. Quite tasty. 

ハーブチキン。これも結構美味しい。

This looks like a rather spicy bowl of Thai ramen. 

結構辛そうなタイラーメンに見えます。

It was damn spicy!! 

激辛だったわ！

My mouth is still burning. 

口の中がまだ燃えてる。

I couldn't stop coughing either. 

咳も止まらなかった。

The spicyness level is crazy.

あの辛さははんぱない。

Trying to put out the fire in your mouth. 

口の中の火を消すためになんか飲むしかない。

Even Yukio suffered from the spicy Thai ramen.

Time for some sweets. I believe these were fried bananas. These are great!

デザートの時間だ。揚げバナナです。最高！

Yep, we went and bought those tropical ice creams - mango, durian, taro, and jackfruit. 

はい、トロピカーナアイス全種類買いましたーマンゴ、ドリアン、タロとジャックフルーツ。

First, I tried the taro ice cream. 

最初に食べたのははタロアイス。

Then, the mango. 

次はマンゴ。

Of course I ate the durian as well. 

もちろんドリアンアイスも食べたよ。

We then moved our party from Yogogi Park to a nearby restaurant and....ate some more!

夕方になって、代々木公園から近くのレストランに移動。そしてまた。。。。食べた！！

Steak, must have been something I ordered. 

ステーキ。多分俺が注文したものだ。

Somebody's battery is down. 

誰か電池切れだ。

We're steaming something.

なにかを蒸してる。

Quesadillas on the menu. 

メニューにケサディージャあり。

A regular ice cream to end our full day of eating and drinking. 

今日の食べ飲みの〆は普通のアイスです。

And then we all went our separate ways. 

アイスを食べ終わったら解散。みんな帰るべきだ。

Tokyo Flashback : Emergenza Semi-Finals / 東京フラッシュバック：エマジェンザー準決勝戦

After enjoying Okinawa cuisine at the Okianwa Festival in Yoyogi Park, we parted ways with some of our friends. My wife and I were going to a small venue called Eggman in Shibuya to see our friend Yukio, who's in a band, play drums tonight at the Emergenza semi-final round. They will be competing with seven other bands. The winner will go on to play at the finals which will be held at On Air East, a much larger venue and is also located in Shibuya. 

沖縄料理を代々木公園で堪能したあと、何人の友達と別れて、僕と妻は友達の幸夫が参加するライブを見に行くことになった。今夜はエマジェンザー準決勝戦。会場は渋谷エッグマンというライブハウス。幸夫はTough Boxというバンドでドラムを叩いてる。今夜はほか７組のバンドで対戦すること。今日勝ち抜けたら夏の決勝戦に行ける。決勝戦は渋谷のON AIR EAST、８月で開催する。

I took pictures of some of the other bands but I couldn't tell you which pictures are of which groups. However, aside from Tough Box. On the bill tonight were Hotel Tennesee, a jazz rock outfit, three other rock bands called Createur, SHiFT, and ROP. A pop rock band called Rucy. African music by Tatsu Rock, and an electro rock group called Public Loser King. 

ほかのバンドの写真も撮りましたが、どの写真がどのバンドとか覚えてない。とりあえず、タフ・ボックス以外で参加してるバンドはジャズロックバンドホテル・テネシー、ロックバンドのCreateur、SHiFTとROP。ポップロックバンドのRucy。あとはアフリカンミュージックby Tatsu RockとエレクトロロックバンドPublic Loser King.

It was kind of hard to take pictures of Yukio who was near the back of the stage sitting behind the drum kit. 

幸夫の写真を撮ろうとしたが、ステージの後ろのほうだし、ドラムキットで彼が良く見えない。

But hey, guess what? The winner of tonight's event was TOUGH BOX!! They will be going on to the finals at On Air East. 

でも、聞いて。今夜優勝したのはなんと友達がメンバーになってるタフ・ボックス！！彼らは８月On Air Eastの決勝戦に出る！

Tokyo Flashback : Okinawa Festival / 東京フラッシュバック：沖縄まつり

It's the second week of May, a few days after Golden Week. Another food festival is being held at Yoyogi Park. This weekend, it's the Okinawa Festival. I got together with a few friends to enjoy Okinawa cuisine. 

５月の２週目。ゴールデンウイークのちょっとあと。また代々木公園でなんかの料理祭りが開催してる。今週末は沖縄まつりだ。友達何人と合流して沖縄料理を楽しめた。

As with most food festivals in Yoyogi Park, they are always crowded. The Okinawa Festival was no exception.

代々木公園で開催される料理祭りはいつも混みます。沖縄まつりも人々が結構居た。

It goes without saying that you must have an Orion Beer if you plan on enjoying Okinawa cuisine. 

沖縄料理食べるのならオリオンビールを忘れちゃいけません。

I had to try some other Okinawa craft beer. I found a booth for Nihede Beer made by Nanto Brewery. You could choose from Nihede Hard, an IPA, or a black ale.

オリオン以外の沖縄地ビールのブースを発見。南都酒造所のニヘデビール。３種類から選べる＝ハード、IPAかブラックエール。

I most definitely ordered the black ale. 

俺は絶対ブラックエールを注文したはず。

It looks like a croquette to me, not necessarily Okinawa cuisine. 

コロッケですね。別に沖縄料理と思わない。

We managed to find a decent area to set up our little space. 

結構良い場所を確保した。

Okinawa cheese risotto? Okay, you know I have to try that.

沖縄チーズリゾット？オッケー、絶対食べみる。

It was quite delicious. 

とっても美味しかった。

It was crowded but not as crowded as it was at the Thai Festival. 

混んでたは混んでたが、タイフェスほどの混み具合ではない。

I was curious about the Okinawa mazesoba which also seems to be called aiyaa soba. 

沖縄まぜそばが気になる。現地の言葉であいやーそばらしい。

Um...okay. Anyway, later this evening we will be going to see our friend and the band he plays for at Eggman here in Shibuya. It is the semi-finals for the Emergenza competition. Our friend plays drums for a band called Tough Box. 

う～ん？オッケー。アイスマンってなんだろう？ ま、今夜の夜僕と妻は友達のライブを見に行く予定。今夜はなんとあのエマジェンザーの準決勝戦。うちの友達はタフ・ボックスというバンドでドラムを叩いてる。
