September 22, 2015 was the fourth day of a Silver Week vacation which started on Saturday, September 19 and lasted through Wednesday, September 23. On Tuesday, we took a a trip with our friends Yukio and Reiko. We would be staying one night in Tsukuba in Ibaraki Prefecture.
２０１５年９月２２日はシルバーウィークの後半でした。その年に９月１５日から２３日までは休みでした。また旅仲間の幸男と玲子と一緒に茨城県つくば市とその周辺の神社巡りを実行した。
I think we had breakfast at some Service Area. I can't remember where but I seemed to have had a big lunch.
どっかのサービスエリアでブレックファーストを食べたと想う。どのSAが覚えてないけど、結構ボリュームあるブレックファーストを食べた。
Our first destination was Kashima Jingu Shrine.
最初の目的地は鹿島神宮。
An 800 year old (or more) castanopsis tree, a genus of evergreen trees that belongs to the beech family (yes, I had to look that up).

The kanji character for "ka" in Kashima is 鹿 which is the character for deer.
鹿島の漢字の「鹿」なので、こういうもの発見。

He/She decided to hang around the gate.
カマキリさんは楼門でくつろいでた。
The guardian on the other side of the gate. The gates are usually guarded by scary looking deities called Nio-sama but at Kashima Jingu Shrine, they are protected by these two men.
もう一人楼門を守る人。普段は仁王様が門を守るけど、鹿島神宮の門を守ってるのは二人の人間です。
This is where you can get your shrine seal and other amulets and charms. It is called the juyosho.

The dango looked good but we didn't eat any.
団子は美味しそうに見えたが、食べなかった。

Our next destination was one of Japan's three largest Inari Shrines - the Kasama Inari Shrine.
次の目的地は日本３大稲荷神社の一つ、笠間稲荷神社。

笠間に来てうさぎになってしまった。
It was lunch time, so we went to a restaurant called [Tsutaya].
昼の時間になり、「つたや」という店でランチを食べた。
Established in the 8th year of Meiji (1875). Soba shop [Tanukian Tsutaya].
創業明治８年 そば処「狸庵 つたや」。
One of the specialties of this shop is the inari soba sushi which we all tried.
笠間名物稲荷そば寿司も食べてみた。
Of course our main dish for lunch was soba.
もちろんランチのメインはざるそばでした。
Our shrine pilgrimage continues as we head for our next destination - Hitachinokuni Izumo Shrine.
茨城県神社巡りが続いて、次の目的地へ。それが常陸国出雲大社。

We headed to one last shrine before making our way to our hotel. Our final destination of the day was Tsukubasan Shrine which is located on Mount Tsukuba in Tsukuba City.
