Sangenjaya Awa Odori Festival 2015 / 三軒茶屋阿波踊り祭り ２０１５

I know I said I was going to focus more on my blog than I would on Facebook but the reality is, its easier to use Facebook on my cell phone than it is to update my blog on that format.  But now that I have even more material to write about, I really will try to focus more on my blog.  Now to continue the post from "Battle of the Udon".  I said my friends and I were going to head to Sangenjaya for the Awa Odori Festival but since we still had time we decided to go bowling!  But only for one game.

さ、前はもっと個人ブログに宣伝したのに、現実はそうでもない。やっぱり個人ブログは携帯でやらないから、Facebookいじるほうが多い。シルバーウィークでまたネタが増えましたので、本当に個人ブログを定期的に更新するつもりです。さて、前のネタの続きですが、うどん天下一決定戦終わったっら三軒茶屋の阿波踊りを見にいくってことでしたが、まだ時間があったので、時間つぶしにボーリングに行きました。

We managed to get two lanes and split up in two groups.  It was me, Reiko and Yukio on one lane with my wife, Ai and Gan-chan on the other lane.  I hadn't bowled in a few years but luck was with me today and I bowled a 181!

 

レインを二つゲットして、２グループに分かれた。僕は幸男と玲ちゃんのグループ。妻は愛ちゃんと岩ちゃんっと。今日僕の運が良かったみたい。なんとスコアが１８１まで行きました！

 

 



When we went to Sangenjaya, we were joined by my friend Suga and his daughter.  His wife would come a little later.

三軒茶屋に行ったら友達の２１番と彼の娘が合流しました。２１番（あだ名です）の妻はあとから来ることになった。

Suga and I watched the Awa Odori last year from this same restaurant.  We went a little early so we could eat, drink, and watch the dancers again this year!  This was the mascot in front of the store.

去年も２１番と一緒にこの店で三軒茶屋の阿波踊りを堪能しました。今年もちょっと早めに来て、同じ店に来ました。店の前のマスコットです。


It would be another half hour before the awa odori would start so of course we drank and ate.

また阿波踊りが始まるのは３０分後だったので、もちろん飲んで食べました。

And so ended our day of eating and drinking and drinking and eating (with one game of bowling thrown in for good measure).  A good time was had by all!

Battle of the Udon 2015 and Super Yosakoi / うどん天下一決定戦 ２０１５とスーパーよさこい

I can't believe I've neglected my blog for almost a month now.  I've been watching so many movies and spending more time on Facebook that working on my own blog.  How sad.  Time to start updating my posts here as well as I have quite a few things I want to write about.  The first post I'm going to write about is the "Battle of the Udon" festival that my friends and I went to a couple of weeks ago at Yoyogi Park.  Six of us were going to meet up at the park so we could share the different udons.  It would be me and my wife of course, our traveling buddies Yukio and Reiko, and my friends (and now my wife and Yukio and Reiko's friends) Ai and Gan-chan.

約一ヶ月間個人ブログを更新したないのは自分も信じられない。やっぱり映画鑑賞とFacebookのやりすぎかな。また個人ブログをちょこちょこ更新しないっと。結構書きたいネタが溜まってます。些最初の復活ネタは「うどん天下一決定戦」。代々木公園で開催してたうどんふぇす。うどんフェスの参加者は私たち含む６人です。旅仲間の幸男と玲ちゃんと愛ちゃんと岩ちゃん。

 

 

We're going to try as many udons as we can.

But first, we watched a little bit of one of the Yosakoi groups that were participating in the Super Yosakoi exhibition.

うどん会場に着く前によさこいのグループの演技をちょっと鑑賞。

 

 

And then we all met up at the Udon Festival area and each of us went to a different udon booth so we could try a huge variety.

 

そしてうどん会場に集合して、一人一人別のうどんの屋台に並んで、買い出し。テーブルを確保して、いろんなうどんを味わう。

Of course we had to have our beer to drink with our udon.  And we did buy something other than udon as well.

 

もちろんうどんを食べながら、ビールも飲みました。うどん以外のものも食べました。

And now to share the different udons we tried.

 

お待ちかね、食べたうどんを紹介する。

 

 

 

First up is a curry udon from a place called Senkichi.  Mild curry flavor and quite delicious.

 

最初に食べたのは「千吉」のカレーうどん。カレーはマイルドでまろやか。とっても美味しかった。

 

 

As its summertime, there were also cold udon on the menu.  This was from an udon cafe called [Harada].  It was an Itakura cucumber chilled udon.

 

夏と言えば冷のうどんも続々。これは原田製麺からの原田の板倉きゅり冷汁うどん。

 

The next two udons are from one booth, a shop called [Onpuku].

Then we tried the Kurashiki Bukkake udon with a hot and cold broth and topped with shrimp.

どこの街なんの商品のゆるキャラなのか知りませんがいました。山梨県のぶどうを宣伝してるのかな？

 

 

This is the inaniwa udon from Akita Prefecture.

 

これは秋田県の稲庭うどん。正式には比内地鶏の冷やし坦々うどん、じゅんさい添え。

This was Yukio's favorite from [Musashino Udon] called Jinko.  The udon is topped with okra, natto, yams, a raw egg and seasoned seaweed.

The above was our last udon for the festival.  But we had plans on going to Sangejaya from Shibuya to check the Awa Odori Festival which would start at 7pm.  So, to kill some time, we went bowling (but only for one game), but that will be for another post.

 

さんま節のうどんがフェスで最後に食べたうどんでした。今日はもうひとつの目的がありました。よる七時から三軒茶屋で阿波踊りを見に行く。時間がまたあったので、ちょっとワンゲームでボーリングに行きました。 それはまた別のネタで書き込む。

Tonari no Shokudo [Kujira So] / となりの食堂「くじら荘」

 

Last week as I was trying to decide where to eat for lunch, I remembered this small cafe recently opened in our neighborhood. It is called Tonari no Shokudo [Kujira So].  Their specialities are hotdogs.  I'm not sure if I would really call these hotdogs though.  The sausages aren't in the buns, more like just topped on top of the buns.  I ordered their chili dog, with a coke.

 

先週末はどこでランチ食べに行くかと迷ったら、最近出来た店を思い出した。三軒茶屋の仲見世の中にとなりの食堂「くじら荘」。店の自慢メニューはホットドッグです。いろんな種類があって、本日はチリドッグを注文しました。コーラと共に。アメリカ人にとってホットドッグとは言うわないな、これ。バンズに挟まてないし、バンズに乗ってる感じです。

A look at their menu.  From the top.  Plain Dog.  Cheese Dog.  Chili Dog.  Hawaiian Dog.  Japanese style hotdog.  Curry sausage.  Coriander Dog.  And you can choose different toppings too!  I went again the following week, but the shop was closed for the Obon holidays.

Port of Call Cafe and Store / ポート・オブ・コール カフェ＆ストア

Time for a few fluff pieces.  Last month when my friend Tetsu and I went to eat burgers at Blackow's in Ebisu, we decided to walk off our lunch calories.  Just by coincidence we passed by this shop called [Port of Call].  What really captured our attention was the menu for burgers.  We decided that we would eat here in the near future, for the burgers of course!  Actually, I had come here on my own but the cafe wasn't opened at that time.  Last week, the day before heading out to Urayasu, I messaged Tetsu to see if he wanted to go out for burgers on Saturday.  Of course he did!

最近店のネタ書いてないかラ久ぶりに新しいバーガーショップを紹介します。先月友人と恵比寿にあるグルメバーガーショップに食べに行ったんで、ランチを終わったらちょっと散歩。その散歩の途中に私の目に止まったのは渋谷駅近くの店「ポート・オブ・コール」。雑貨はどうでもいい。気になったのはメニューに載ってたバーガー。 ちょっと前に一人で来たが、その時カフェのほうは休みでした。先週浦安に行く前に友人のてっちゃんを誘い、こんどこそ、この店のバーガーを食べに行く。

The smoking section is the entire second floor.  Although I don't smoke my friend does.  But there was only a couple besides us when we went.  Very relaxing atmosphere.

店の二階は喫煙オッケー。自分はタバコ吸いませんが、友人はタバコ吸う。行った時は私たち以外に一人組みのカップルがいました。店内は結構可愛い。雰囲気もよさげ。

Beer before burgers.  And of course I had to show off my T-Town shirt (not for Tokyo, but for Tacoma). I suggested to Tetsu that we order to different burgers and have them cut in half so we can enjoy two different types.

バーガーの前にビール。そしてアメリカの実家愛でT-TownT-シャツを着てます。このT-Townは東京ではなく、Tacoma（タコマ）とういう街です。てっちゃんに違う種類のバーガーを注文して、店の方に半分に切って貰おうと提案。それだったら、２種類のバーガーが味わえる。

This is the POC Burger or Port of Call Burger.  The buns are nice and fluffy and so delicious.  The burger is filled 100% beef patty, Parmesan crisp, shiitake mushrooms, roasted tomato, caramalized onions and a house ketchup and is only　1,200yen!

これは店の自慢のPOCバーガー。メニューからの説明とパルメザンクリスプ、マッシュルーム、ローストトマト、キャラメリゼオニオン、自家製ケチャップ、ジューシーな牛肉100%のパテとのバランスがバッチリなオリジナルハンバーガーです。そして値段は１，２００円！

The other burger we ordered today was the Truffle Burger. This burger is filled with roasted garlic aioli, house truffle cheese, and a truffle glaze. 

もう一つ注文したバーバーはトリュフバーガー。はい、そのトリュフですよ。中身はローストガーリックアイオリ、ハウストリュフチーズとトリュフグレーズ。

They also had some craft beer on their menu as well.  This is Minoo beer Weizen from Osaka Prefecture.  It's also where my aunt and cousins happen to live.  In Minoo, not at the brewery!

メニューに地ビールもありました。僕の従兄弟が住んでる街大阪府箕面市の箕面ビールがありました。ヴァイツェンを飲みました。これもまた美味しいんですよ。

It was still a bit early so while Tetsu and I were enjoying our second beer, we decided to order a side order of fish and chips.  Little did we know that there wouldn't be that much fish but thought the menu should be changed to fish and chips and chips and chips.  Quite a large portion.

 

時間がまだ早かったので、二杯目のビールと共にフィッシュ＆チップスを注文。私たちがびっくりしたのはチップスの量。はんぱない。フィッシュは以外と少なめでした。メニューにフィッシュ＆チップスじゃなくフィアッシュ＆チップス＆チップス＆チップスって感じでした。

 

 



Just looking out the window before parting ways with Tetsu.  He will be going to see a martial arts event this evening while I will be going to Urayasu with my wife to spend the weekend with friends.  I love the weekends!
