Day Trip to Nikko (Part 7) / 日光日帰り旅行 （パート７）

Yes, yes, I know its taking me a while to complete my Nikko Day Trip post but there was the family trip, work of course, and another concert, and watching loads and loads of movie (I've been neglecting reading books).  Anyway, I figured its time to continue my travel post.

はいはい、わかってますよ。日光日帰り旅行のネタ中々進んでません。 いろいろありましてね、家族が日本に来たり、通常の仕事、ライブ、何枚の映画鑑賞など。読書は最近やってませんけどね。そろそろ旅のネタの続き書かないっと。

Kegon Waterfall / 華厳の滝

 

 

 

 

 

I came across a couple of interesting characters before heading down for a closer look at the waterfall.  Innovative advertising for fried yuba (made from tofu) and yuba croquette.

 

面白いキャラ発見。売店の宣伝にゆばフライとゆばコロッケ。

 

 

 A corridor (and it was really cold going through there) that leads to the main viewing point for the waterfall.

ここを通ると華厳の滝の一番良いビューポイントに繋がる。それは良いんだけど、この中は超寒かった！

If you could read Japanese, you would see the humor in this pic.  The sign in front of my friend says, "Ooki Buta-man" which if translated directly would be "Large Pig Man".  Of course "butaman" is actually a hot bun filled with pork.

 

わざではなかったが、友達がこのサインの隣に立てて、うった笑っちゃいました。

 

 

We then headed to one more shrine before making the drive home.

 

あと帰る前にも一か所を行ってみた。

Day Trip to Nikko (Part 6) / 日光日帰り旅行 （パート６）

Lunch time!!

昼食の時間だ！

Mm, soba and rice and other goodies!

美味しい！蕎麦とごはんと他の美味しいもの！

This was my lunch, zaru soba, tempura and of course rice as well.

僕のランチはざるそばと天ぷらとごはん。良い感じ。

Of course I will go in search of craft beers.  This one from Tochigi Prefecture.

 

もちろん旅先には地ビールを探すさ。これは栃木県の地ビール。

And now we're headed to Kegon Waterfalls.  We must take this famous road called the Nikko Iroha Zaka, not as long or curvy as the Road to Hana on Maui but it comes a close second.

 

食べたあとに次の目的地へ移動。それは華厳の滝。そこに行くのは必ず日本の道百選の一つ、日光いろは坂を通る。

Day Trip to Nikko (Part 5) / 日光日帰り旅行 （パート５）

First of all, my apologies that my Nikko post has not been completed.  I had to take a Sabbatical while my family was visiting from the States.  When they went to Kansai for a week, I then fell under the weather.  But healthy enough when they came back for the last week in Japan.  Then I had to recuperate from the family visit and that is why my blog has not been updated in almost a month.  But now that I'm back, I must continue my post about the day trip I took to Nikko.

長い間ブログを休んで申し訳ございません。丁度アメリカから家族が日本に遊びに来たもんで、ブログを更新する時間はありませんでした。家族は最初に一週間は東京で過ごし、二週目は関西、で三週目はまた東京に戻るという計画。二週目ブルグ更新出来なかった理由は風邪をひいちゃって。家族も無事アメリカに帰りましたが、自分の充電する時間も必要でした。ですから一ヶ月近くブログの更新はありませんでした。やっと戻りましたので、日光日帰り旅行のネタの続きを書きます！

And now, aside from the main temple of Toshogu, the area I've been looking forward to seeing, the area where almost all of the buildings are World Heritage Sites.

さ、東照宮以外で僕が気になってる場所に移動。世界遺産がいっぱいあるところに行った。

Ｈｉｅ Jinja (848), now that's old! / 日枝神社

 

 

Shinyosha / 神輿舎

 

Storage building for mikoshi (portable shrines) built during the beginning of the Edo era.

 

御神輿の神輿三基を収める江戸時代初期の建創物。

This lantern is designated an Important Cultural Property / 唐銀燈籠 （国指定重要文化財）

 

 

Daikokuden / 大国殿

Oshinboku / 御神木

 

This tree is approximately 700 years old, is about 6.35 meters thick, and is 60 meters tall.

 

樹齢は約７００年、太さは６．３５メートル、高さは約６０メートル。

 

 

 

Maroishi / 円石 （まろいし）

 

Maroishi translates to a "Round Rock".  A little difficult for me to translate what the sign says in English but it roughly says if you live your life pure and round as a rock, then you will find happiness.

 

人の心を丸く、角たてず おだやかに生きれば 自然に人は幸せになれます。
