The following day, my wife and I, along with our friend Reiko, went to the Urayasu City Folk Museum.
神社巡りの旅から戻った翌日、僕と妻と友達の玲ちゃん、３人で浦安市郷土博物館に行きました。
This very nice looking building is the museum.
この立派な建物が浦安市郷土博物館です。
The title of the sculpture piece is [Jiai] which translates to "charity" or "love".
この像のタイトルは「慈愛」です。
As soon as you enter the building, you are greeted by this fellow. The great thing about this museum is that it's free.
ビルに入るとこのキャラに歓迎される。彼の隣のサインに書いてあるのは浦安市郷土博物館へようこど。「自由に見て、触れて、感じて浦安を五感で知ろう！」そんな参加・体験型の博物館です。
The boat the character was standing on is called a beka-fune. It is a small sailing bot used for collecting seaweed, etc.
展示されてる船はべか船という。説明は下記の写真をご覧ください。
As the sign says, the beka-fune was used to collect seaweed, clams, etc. It is a one-man wooden sailing vessel. At the peak of the fishing industry in Urayasu, there were over a thousand of these beka-fune being used on the Sakai River. The shipbuilders and repairers helped to keep the fishery industry afloat (no pun intended).

Look closely and you will see the face of fish inside the can.

Do you know what was really cool about this museum. There is an outdoor display of Urayasu City reproduced what it looked like in the past. Checking out this area, you feel like you traveled back in time.
個人的に浦安市郷土博物館の一番の見所は野外展示場。昔の「浦安のまち」が再現されてます。ここに来るとまるでタイムスリップしたような感じになる。
Yep, we just time-traveled back to the Showa era.
はい、昭和時代にタイムスリップしました。

It felt like I was peering into someone's house.
誰かの家の中を覗いてる感じでした。
So we took the liberty of exploring the inside of the house.
入っても良いという感じで、遠慮なく家の中を探索してみた。
Oh, it looks like an old wood-burning stove.
おう、薪ストーブではないか。
Perhaps the owner of this house was also a fisherman.
この家の飼い主も漁師だったかも知りませんね。
I believe this is the front entrance. It reminds me of my grandmother's house in Maizuru.
こちが玄関ですね。舞鶴にある自分のお祖母ちゃんの家の玄関もこういう感じでした。
Houses of old all seemed to have a small Shinto shrine altar called a kamidana.
古民家もほぼ神棚もありましたね。
Oh, and the small table called a chabudai is so Showa era.
おう、ちゃぶ台も超昭和時代って感じ。

Reiko decided to work here part-time.

僕がたばこに店でバイトを始める。

It was about time for us to return to the future. Once we did so, we would check out a few of the local shrines around the neighborhood. Until then, see you for now.
