While waiting for my friend to join me for lunch, I had a little time on my own. And as I checked out a map of the area, I discovered that Ningyocho is also the birthplace of one of Japan's more famous literary authors - Junichiro Tanizaki. Unfortunately, his monument was just a large plaque on a wall of a building.

There is a nice quiet little park located not too far from the burger shop as well.
Cool statue, my friend read the sign explaining what it represented but as it's been over a month now, I've forgotten most of it. But for my Japanese readers, see below:
Cool Clock Towers /
What does the whale have to do with Ningyocho? As this area was known for making marionettes, the whiskers of the whale were used and are still used as the strings for the puppets.
Old style fire well / 防災井戸
I can't keep up with the names of all the temples and shrines you will find throughout the city.
Weird looking building - apparently housing a Chinese restaurant on the 1st floor /
To be continued...

Yup, we saw the same kabuki statue! It's near Meijiza Theater. I dunno who it is, but I do know that style is "aragoto", the macho style favoured by Edo's actors. I've read that Kansai actors were more, ummm, shall we say they could be described as the forerunners of today's sōshokukei-danshi? ;) There's a lot of stuff here that I didn't go to, so you're right, I'll have to go back! ^^
