Day Trip to Chiba Prefecture (Part 3) / 千葉県日帰り旅行 （パート３）

As promised, I shall introduce the various Kannons that you will find inside the Tokyo Bay Kannon. First, the "Seven Lucky Gods of Fortune".

約束通り、東京湾観音の中の神々を紹介します。まず最初は七福神です。

Daikokuten - God of wealth, commerce, & trade / 大黒天


Bishamonten - God of Warriors / 毘沙門天

Benzaiten (Benten) - Goddess of Knowledge, Art & Beauty / 弁財天


Jurojin - God of Longevity / 寿老人


Fukurokuju - God of Happiness / 福禄寿


Hotei - God of Abundance and Good Health / 布袋尊

Top of Tokyo Bay Kannon / 東京湾観音最上階


Although we had to walk up a flight of stairs, the strange thing was the fact that it wasn't strenuous and we made it to the top in less than 30 minutes.

最上階まで階段を登りましたが、不思議な事に全然疲れなかった。30分足らずで登りきった。

Once we climbed to the top, it was time to walk back down the stairs and finally we would be off to Nihon-ji Temple and Jizoku Nozoki, "the Devil's Peephole". As we were nearing our main destination, Yukio asked me if it was Nihon-ji or the Nokogiriyama (Sawtooth Mountain) Ropeway. Thinking that the "Devil Peephole" was at the top of the ropeway, I said the ropeway of course. Unfortunately, herein lies our mistake. You see, once we reached the top of the ropeway, we looked at the map of the area and found the "Devil's Peephole" to be on the opposite side of the mountain where we were from. It would be a 40 minute round trip to walk there. That wouldn't have been a problem. The problem was it was 3:10pm, and the last tram down the ropeway was at 4:00pm. There is no way we could make it in time. We made a half-hearted attempt and seeing that a round-trip would take us longer than 40 minutes, we just hung around the top of the ropeway. As we've seen the view of Tokyo Bay from the top of the Kannon, there wasn't much of interest around here. My second trip to Nihon-ji Temple and once again I didn't get to check out the "Devil's Peephole". That brought my tension down. If only I had said Nihon-ji and not the Ropeway! If only we didn't stop at the souvenir area which didn't have much of anything. Who knows when I'll get a chance to go to Nihon-ji again. Bummer!

東京湾観音の最上階まで登りきって、降りてメインの目的地、鋸山と地獄のぞきを目指しまた。日本寺に近付くと幸男が日本寺か鋸山のロープウェイにのどっちを目指せば良いと聞いて、地獄のぞきは鋸山の上の思ってロープウェイに行こうと言ってしまった。これが凶になるとは。ロープウェイまで行くのが問題なかったが、上の行ったら大変の事に気付いた。僕が一番行きたかった地獄のぞきは日本寺のほうにあった。それにロープウェイから地獄のぞきまで行くのが往復で40分位かかる。歩くの良いが、現在の時間は3時10分。ロープウェイの最終時間は4時。時間が足りない。一丁挑戦してみたが、やっぱり40分以上の時間が必要と分かった。それで今回も地獄のぞきを断念した。なんで日本寺じゃなくてロープウェイと言ったんだ。あの微妙なお土産さん行かなくてよかったのに。ロープウェイの上の展望台は東京湾観音とあまり変わらないし、登る意味はなかった。二回目の日本寺なのに、また地獄のぞきが行けなかったのは超悔しい。あ～あ、つぶやいて、今度一人で行くわっと言って。ま、そんなことはないが、そゆう気持でした。昨日もう一度日本寺の公式サイトを見てたら、こうゆうミスはしなかった。

After leaving the ropeway, we headed back to Tokyo. Our day trip was far from over though. You see, we had reservations at 6:00pm for dinner in Tsukishima. Our main dish would be angler nabe!

ロープウェイを降りたあとに千葉県の旅行は終了。でも今日の日帰りツアーはまだつづく。夜の6時に月島にあるレストランに予約があった。月島と言えば最初に思い浮かぶはもんじゃ焼きと思いますが、私たちが今夜食べるのはあんこう鍋だ！
