Tokyo Flashback : Day Trip to Tateyama / 東京フラッシュバック：千葉県館山日帰り旅行

On a weekend at the end of February, we stayed the night at our friend's apartment in Urayasu. Our goal today is to check out the Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival) in Katsuura and then go to Tateyama to check out one of the few reclining buddhas in Japan. 

２０１５年２月下旬、僕と妻は浦安に住んでる友達のアパートに泊まった。翌日、車で勝浦のひな祭りと館山にある寝槃仏を見に行くことを計画した。

It's the Pacific Ocean. 

太平洋だ。

I forgot what the name of this beach was.

Not lunch, just snack time. I had some udon. 

昼食ではない。おやつみたいなもんです。うどんを食べました。

Every year, Katsuura holds the Big Doll Festival. At various shrines and places, many hina dolls are on display. The weather wasn't so great this year. 

毎年勝浦にビッグひな祭りが開催されてます。今年の天気はあんまり良くなかった。

    

It looks like we came upon a wedding ceremony. 

神社でちょうど結婚式が行われてた。

There was a bit of rain, so the hina dolls were covered in plastic. 

雨が降ってたので、ひな人形がプラスチックシートでカバーされてた。

I borrowed this picture just to show you what it's supposed to look like when the weather is nice.

借りた写真ですが、天気の良い日にこういう形でひな人形が楽しめる。

While we are in Katsuura, we had to have the Katsuura tantanmen for lunch. 

せっかく勝浦に来てるので、ランチは勝浦タンタンメンに決まり。

We went to a ramen shop called [Teppatsuya]. 

Nice and spicy. 

スパイシーで美味しい。

We stopped by the Harbor Station [Marutake] and looked around. 

道の港「まるたけ」に寄り道した。

Not a dinosaur, but the bones of a blue whale was on display outside. 

恐竜ではないが、シロナガスクジラの骨組みが展示されてる。

That was pretty cool. 

結構面白かった。

I spotted the red oni on the roof of one of temples we went to. 

どっかのお寺か神社の屋根に赤い鬼が居ました。

This is at Daifukuji Temple, also known as the Gake Kannon. 

ここは大福地。通称崖観音。

We decided to soak in a hot spring at Gokuraku no Yu. 

極楽の湯で一休み。

Then it was our long drive back to Urayasu from Tateyama. I think we all went out for yakiniku in the evening. 

そして館山から浦安に戻る。確か夕飯はみんなで焼肉を食べに行った。

And so ended our Katsuura and Tateyama adventure. 

そして勝浦と館山の冒険の幕が閉じた。

Tokyo Flashback : Chiba Prefecture Izakaya and Oyster Bar / 東京フラッシュバック：千葉県の居酒屋とオイスターバー

The last day of February in 2015 was a Saturday. My wife and I stayed the night at our friend's apartment in Urayasu in Chiba Prefecture. We were planning a day trip to Tateyama on the Boso Peninsula the following day. At night, we went to an izakaya for dinner but I don't remember the name of the place except that it was within walking distance from our friend's apartment. 

２０１５年２月の最後の日は土曜日でした。僕と妻は千葉県浦安市に住んでる友達の家に泊に行った。翌日日帰りで房総半島の立山良く予定。夜は浦安にある居酒屋で夕飯を食べに行った。店の名前は全く覚えてませんが、友達のアパートから歩ける距離だった。

Some type of sashimi? I didn't bother taking notes about what exactly did we eat.

刺身かな？何を食べたか全然メモってないので、どういう魚がもわからない。

An assortment of sashimi. I see some sea urchin, octopus, maguro, and some type of clams and other fish. 

刺身の盛り合わせ。見えるのはウに、タコ、マグロ、貝と他の魚。

Yum, meat and potatoes! I probably ordered this dish. 

おう！肉とジャガイモ。俺が注文したんだろうな。

Here's something I don't usually eat but I do try to be adventurous. In the dish on the top right and on the right side, the white tube-like item is cod milt, as fish sperm does sound rather disgusting. It's soft and has a strange texture. 

自分が普段食べないものもために挑戦して食べるよ。アメリカ人は白子を食べる習慣はないので、材料が分かれば，更に食べないだろう。

A couple of bar staples - croquettes and a deep fried oyster. 

居酒屋の定番メニューのコロッケとカキフライ。

This looks like one of my wife's favorite dishes. A bowl of rice topped with sea urchin, salmon roe, and crab.

これは妻が好きな食べ物だな。三食丼。うにといくらと蟹乗せ！

The Japanese must have their miso soup. 

日本人に吹かせない食べ物と言えば味噌汁ですね。

またまた刺身の盛り合わせが登場しました。

After dinner, Reiko said we had to try the oysters here at this bar called Ibiza. 

夕飯を食べ終わったら、玲ちゃんがこのバー「Ibiza」の牡蠣を食べるべきと言った。

It's a cute little bar and looks like it has a nice atmosphere. 

可愛い外観で店内の雰囲気も良さそう。

Well, we are at a bar. I had to drink some sake!

バーに居るから、もちろん酒も飲まないっと！

This was our main reason for coming here!!

This is probably something my wife ordered.

多分妻が注文したな。

My friend Yukio said I had to try these. They were good too. I think it was some type of tofu. 

友達の幸男がこれを食べないっと。なんかの豆腐料理だったかな。

And just a few more oysters before we would head back to their apartment. 

友達のアパートに戻るまえにもうちょっと牡蠣を食べる。
