Tokyo Flashback : Street Performers Festival in Sangenjaya / 東京フラッシュバック：三茶de大道芸

When my wife and I lived in Sangenjaya in Tokyo, one of the events we looked forward to seeing was the Street Performers Festival, usually held on the second weekend of October. This year's festival was held on October 17 and 18. On Saturday, the festivities started from noon and ended at 7:00pm. It ended at 6:00pm on Sunday. My wife was working in the day so I ventured out on my own. She would join me later on in the evening. 

東京の三軒茶屋に住んでて時、僕と妻が一つのイベントを毎年楽しみにしてたのは大道芸祭り。いつも１０月の２週目の休日に開催してた。今年の三茶de大道芸は１０月１７日と１８日に開催しました。土曜日は昼から１９時まで。日曜日は１８時まで。妻は午後からバイトだったので最初は一人でいろんな会場に歩き回った。妻がバイトからあがったら一緒に見ることにした。

I first saw a couple of animal marionettes. 

最初に見たのは動物のマリオネット。

I went to the NTT Square to check out Performer SYO. 

NTT広場に行って、パフォーマーSYOを見に行った。

Oh, and the great thing about festivals is the food!

あっ、祭りと言えば食べ物ですね。

Nothing like a little meat assortment to put a smile on my face. 

や～、肉の盛り合わせで自然に微笑む。

A very tall couple!

背の高いカップル。

Hey, I made a new friend. 

おう、新しい友達が出来た。

Hey, it's the tall couple again. We saw them dancing together at night. The couple are called Stiltango consisting of nanisole and MEI. Their name probably comes from doing the tango on stilts. 

あっ、昼で会った背の高いカップル。夜は二人でダンスしてました。スティルタンゴという大道芸人でした。nanisoleとMEIによる足長パフォーマンスデュオ。

The name of this performer is Meet Pete. He is a tightrope walker. 

このパフォーマーの名前はミート・ピート。

My wife and I both have Sundays off, so we enjoyed the Street Performers Festival together on this day. 

僕と妻の一緒の休みは日曜日のみだったので、今日は二人で三茶de大道芸を楽しみえた。

This performer's name is Bald Yamada. He was pretty freaky-lookin'. 

この大道芸人はボールド山田。ちょっと不気味な感じ。

You can check out some street art as well.

And there are many walking performers as well. 

そして歩くアートもあちこちに見かける。

Unfortunately, this would be the last Street Performers Festival we would see as we would move to Aomori the following year. 

残念ながら、これが最後に見た三茶de大道芸。翌年、東京から青森市に引っ越すことになる。

Tokyo Flashback : Asian Foods Restaurant [Sahara] / 東京フラッシュバック：アジアン料理「サハラ」

After exploring Joshinji Temple and the temple grounds, it was time for lunch. We came across the restaurant called [Sahara]. Written on their sign is "Asian Foods Restaurant" and judging from their menu, it's mostly Indian and Thai cuisine. We decided to have lunch here. 

九品仏浄真寺を探索したあと、昼食の時間になった。九品仏を歩き回ったらアジアン料理「サハラ」という店を発見。メニューを見ると主にインドカレーとタイ料理になってます。ランチはこのレストランに決定。

I ordered the saag chicken curry which is a curry made with spinach. The curry came with naan. 

僕が注文したのはサグチキンカレー。サグはほうれん草のことです。

And to wash down my curry, I had a mango lassi. 

そして飲み物はマンゴラッシーにしました。

It was quite delicious. I forgot what my wife ordered but most likely something from the Thai portion of the menu. And so ended our adventure for the day. 

妻がなに食べたか忘れてましたが、多分タイ料理のほうからなんかを選んだと想う。これで今日の冒険の幕が閉じた。

Tokyo Flashback : A Walk around Kuhonbutsu / 東京フラッシュバック：九品仏（くほんぶつ）の散歩

Where is Kuhombutsu? It's in Tokyo in Setagawa Ward on the Oimachi Line. It is the next stop after Jiyugaoka when heading towards Mizonokuchi. What is there to see in Kuhombutsu? My wife and I went to to check out Joshinji Temple. 

九品仏はどこにある？九品仏は東京、世田谷区、大井町線にある。溝の口方円で自由が丘の次の駅にある。九品仏になにがある？僕と妻は九品仏に来た理由は浄真寺（じょうしんじ）にお参りすることでした。

It's a very small station. 

結構小さな駅です。

It was a very short walk to Joshinji Temple.

After exploring the temple, it was time for lunch. We decided to look for a place to eat somewhere around the area.
