A Walk around Sengakuji (Part 2) /

As I said, there was still plenty to see around Sengakuji Temple.  Lets take a look around.

First of all, there is the Akogishi Kinenkan (Ako Warrior Memorial Hall).  I decided to pass on checking it out this time around, not that I was feeling miserly for not wanting to pay the 500yen entry fee but we will leave it at that.

The graves of the 47 Ronin are further back.

You can see that there is a well, but what's so special about it?

So glad you asked.  This is the well where the Ako warriors washed the head of Kozukenosuke Kira before presenting the head to the grave of their Master, Naganori Asano.

My Japanese readers can read the sign to see what the significance of the well is.

It is said that when Naganori Asano committed seppuku in the garden of another lord's residence, his blood was spilled on this stone and plum tree.

Here was another interesting thing to look at, something called a suikinkutsu.

So concludes my walk around Sengakuji Temple, but I continued walking around the neighborhood to see what other sites of interest I might come across.
