Gyoza Stadium / 餃子スタジアム

After showing Bryan around some Tokyo sites, it was time for lunch. Mikako met up with in Shibuya, and then it was off to the Gyoza Stadium in Ikebukuro. I keep telling my brother about this place, but he has yet to set foot on these shores again - even though he would be in gyoza heaven (and yes, he loves gyoza!). There may have only been the three of us but we still tried at least ten different kinds of gyoza and one Peking dog (that would be a hot dog bun filled with Peking duck!). And because there was only the three of us, we managed to try the gyoza of five of the eleven stores currently featured.

ブライアンと一緒に東京見物したあと、昼頃美香子が私たちと合流、いざ池袋へ。目的地は餃子スタジアム。自分の兄貴がここぜったい行きたくなると思うが、いつまた日本に来るか？兄貴は大の餃子ファンでここはまさに餃子天国。今回は私たち三人だけだったが、それでも１０種類以上の餃子を食べました。あと北京ドッグも（ホットドッグに北京ダックが入ってるもの）。 たったの三人なので、１１店舗の中５店舗の餃子しか食べられなかった。

The last few times I've been to the Gyoza Stadium it was usually crowded. But if you have the chance, you should go on a weekday afternoon as there is hardly any crowds at all.

何回も餃子スタジアムに行ったことがありますが、いつも込んでて、待ち時間も長い。出来れば、平日の昼に行ってみたらかなり空いてますよ。

After eating all that gyoza, we needed something sweet as well so we head off to Ice Cream City. But as we were already full to begin with, we only had one ice cream each.

餃子を食べまくったあとにあっさりしたものが食べたくなった。それでアイスクリームシティのほうに行きました。私たちはもう満腹だったので、アイスは一種類しか食べられなかった。

Tokyo Tour Guide the Second / 東京案内人 第二段

Friday, May 28. Another day off for me and it is Bryan's last full day in Tokyo. Once again, we will be touring Tokyo and hitting the spots that was on his intinerary but haven't checked out yet. On my work days, he traveled on his own to Seiseki Sakuragaoka, Kawasaki, Kamakura, Enoshima, and Disneyland / Disney Sea. That's a lot of traveling. Today's plan. One spot that wasn't on his list but I said he shouldn't miss out on - the Tokyo Tower. Then we would check out Zojoji Temple, the Imperial Palace and Yasukuni Shrine. My wife would meet up with us in the afternoon as we plan on having lunch in Ikebukuro at the Gyoza Stadium. If we still have time, we'll head back to Akihabara where Bryan missed out on a couple of game shops he wanted to check out - Media Land and Sofmap.

５月２８日、金曜日。私の公休日。日本に遊びに来てるブライアンの最終日。僕が今日も東京案内人になってあげる日です。ブライアンの予定表で行きたい所でまだ行ってない場所を連れてあげる。僕が仕事してる間、ブライアンが一人で観光した所を聞いてみたら、成績桜ケ丘、川崎、鎌倉、江の島、ディズニーランドとディズニーも行ったみたい。充実してますね。一ヵ所ブライアンの予定表に載ってなかったが、いってみるべきの場所を無理やりに連れてあげた。そこはもちろん東京タワー！他に行く場所は増上寺、皇居、と靖国神社。嫁が昼に合流して池袋にある餃子スタジアムでランチを食べる。食後にまだ時間があれば、ブライアンが秋葉原で見つからなかった店メディアランドに行く。

There were a lot of students at the Tokyo Tower so I guess it must be shugaku ryoko (school trip season). We then checked out the Zojoji Temple which is located close by. Then we hopped on a subway to head to the Imperial Palace.

東京タワーが学生でいっぱい。もしかして、今は修学旅行の季節かな？ 東京タワーを探索したあと、近くの増上寺に行きました。次は地下鉄に乗って、皇居の近い駅日比谷に行きました。

We were also within walking distance of the Diet Building so we headed there to get a good picutre.

Laos Festival 2010 / ラオス フェス ２０１０

It was Bryan's second day of touring Tokyo. I planned on taking him to the Laos Festival for lunch and then we would head off to other spots around town. Of course, things never work out as planned and we ended spending all day at the festival with my friends. But Bryan was happy because one of my friends decided to talk to a group of women who had their space set up nearby and talked them into letting Bryan hang out with them. We decided to leave him on his own and he seemed to be a happy camper. He later told us that the women invited him out to go drinking next Friday which would be his last night in Japan. I hope they don't stand him up. My wife didn't expect us to be there after she got off work, but a drinking we were, so she joined us as well. When she came, Bryan was sitting with the group of women and looked like a pretty happy camper. My wife said to Bryan, "You look so happy" which we believe he was.

今日はブライアンの東京観光２日目。予定としては昼食を代々木公園で行なわれているラオスフェスで食べて、そのあとにいろんな観光名所を巡る。でもそうゆう風にはなりませんでした。ラオスフェスでブライアンに僕の友達を紹介して、結局夕方まで居た。その後もまた別の店で飲み食いがつづきました。ちょっと酔った友達が近くで飲んでた女性グループに声をかけ、ブライアンを無理やり連れてって、女性たちにブライアンの相手を頼んでた。あとからブライアンに聞きましたが、女性たちはブライアンを来週の金曜日に飲みに誘ったそうです。社交辞令じゃなければ良いんですが。僕の嫁が仕事終わったらまさか私たちがラオスフェスにまだ居ると思ってなかったが、夕方に合流しました。その時ブライアンは女性グループに囲まれて、ブライアンに英語で、“幸せそうだね” とブライアンが笑ってた。


My friend I introduced Bryan to was Suga. Suga and I took a vacation to Laos some ten years ago and had some great memories of the country, especially indulging in their national beer - Beer Lao. I didn't know they made a dark beer as well.

一緒に飲んでた友達の一人、１０年前位僕と一緒にラオスに行った。ラオスは特別な思いがいっぱいある国で、特に国のビール、ビールラオ。黒ビールもあったのは知らなかった。

In Laos, at an open air food stall, a large bottle of Beer Lao cost the equivalent of 50 cents or so! But this being a festival, the main items were food of course! The Thai Festival was just last week so a lot of food items were similar, Laos being right next door to Thailand but as I love Thai food as well, I had no complaints.

ラオスの屋台で大瓶のビールラオは４０円位だった。フェスティバルですからメインはもちろん食べ物です！先週タイフェスが行われったので、料理はほとんど似た様なものばっかり。タイ料理は好きだから問題無し。

There was also a short hero show at the satellite stage which was set up near where we were. I only watched part of it, but I think Bryan enjoyed it.
