A Walk around Kita Senju (Part 2) / 北千住の散歩 （パート２）

After enjoying a burger at the Sunny Diner, my former co-worker and I walked around the neighborhood for a bit more checking out the old Showa style buildings.

バーガーを食べたあと、まだ街の周りを探索してみた。昭和時代の建物が今でも活用してるところに行ってみた。

But before we went and had our burgers, at the Senju Moto Senju Hikawa Jinja, there was a monument to represent this place as the origin of Japan's early morning radio taisou (a radio program that narrates the morning exercise - it's a Japanese thing). But looking it up on the internet, there seem to be quite a few places that claim to be the origin of the morning radio exercise all over Tokyo.

バーガーを食べる前に、千住元氷川神社に気になる記念碑がありました。ここの神社がラジオ体操の発祥の地と書かれた。でもネットで調べたら、東京でいろんな所にラジオ体操の発祥の地に記念碑があるみたい。

Also near Kita Senju station is a building that's called the "Yokoyama Family Warehouse".

We also came across an art piece in a small park titled "Jidai wo Mitsumeru" which translates to something like "Viewing the Present".

小さな公園にあるものを発見。第3回足立区野外彫刻コンクールの入賞作品がありました。タイトルは「時代を見つめる」。

Before heading back to the station, we checked out one more temple - Chouenji Temple.

駅に戻る前にもう一つのお寺を訪ねました ー 長園寺（ちょうえんじ）

At the entrance of Chouenji Temple and to the left of the gate is something called "Meyami Jizou Son". There are hand-painted prayer boards to keep your eyes healthy.

And so concludes another neighborhood walk.
