Grandma Enma's Mabodofu / 炎魔ばあちゃんの麻婆豆腐

This actually isn't a ramen shop, but a mabodofu (spicy minced meat with tofu) shop but the menu features ramen as well. After doing a little shopping in West Shinjuku we decided to have lunch. As we were wandering around, the sign for spicy mabodofu caught our eyes and as we enjoy spicy foods, we chose this place, "Grandma Enma's Mabodofu" [my translation] for lunch. The mabodofu looked appetizing but we decided to order ramen instead. I had the Enma tanmen while Mikako ordered the Tantan-men. We also shared a plate of gyoza as well.

この店はラーメン屋ではないが、メニューにいろんなラーメンがある。西新宿で買い物の後はちょうど昼食の時間でした。どっかの店を探しながら、あるサインに目が止まった。炎魔堂とゆう看板。店の名前は「炎魔ばあちゃんの麻婆豆腐」。それに美味しそうな麻婆丼とかラーメンの写真も飾ってた。僕は炎魔タンメンを注文して、美香子は坦々麺をチョイス。餃子も頼みました。

I think we found a winner. Both ramens were great. The tanmen was nice and spicy and full of vegetables and was filled with nice thick noodles. The tantan-men was just as spicy with a heavy dose of sesame. It was also served with thick noodles as well, but not as thick as the tanmen. And the gyoza - oh my, a gyoza that is already flavored and had a nice crunch to it. We could eat a dozen of these and not get tired of them.

や～決まりの店じゃ。ラーメンも美味しかった。炎魔タンメンは辛口で野菜もたっぷり入ってた。麺も太麺で味が結構しみついて最高。坦々麺も中太麺使用で胡麻の味もちゃんときいてる。餃子も最高。味が付いてるので、醤油かラー油はいっさいいらない。それにこの餃子のサクサク感がたまらない。何倍でも食べそう。

The store only has one table and a long counter for their customers. At night it becomes a shot bar. We enjoyed this place so much, we planned on coming here again for the mabodofu.

店は一つのテーブルとカウンタースペースしかない。夜にショットバーに変わります。この店結構気に入りましたので、今度麻婆丼を食べに行く予定。

I really didn't expect that we would be coming back to this place so soon but one of the DVDs I bought was defective and so we found ourselves in West Shinjuku again the following week. Since we were in the neighborhood, we came back to eat some mabodofu. You can choose the level of spicyness as well from mildly spicy, to spicy, to angry spicy. I of course chose the angry spicy while Mikako opted for the spicy. And we had to have the gyoza again as well.

この店にすぐに戻ると思えなかったでも買ったDVDが不良品で新しいDVDの交換の為、一週間後にまた西新宿に行った。また「炎魔ばあちゃんの麻婆豆腐」の店の近くだったので、今日の昼食は麻婆丼に決まり。麻婆丼の辛さも選べる様になってます。マイルドスパイシー、辛口と怒りの麻婆。またあの餃子も食べました。
