When I lived in Seattle (Tacoma for you purists), I looked forward to the summer when two of my favorite festivals took place, "The Bite of Seattle" and "The Taste of Tacoma". As you can tell from the title, they are food festivals. I just have a weakness for eating great food and reasonable prices. But since I no longer live in the Northwest, the food festivals I look forward to now in Tokyo are the Thai Festival (held in May), Tokyo University of Agriculture's Harvest Festival in November, and this one, the Azabu Juban Summer Night Festival held every year in August. I've been going to the Azabu Juban Festival for the past ten years now, usually with a bunch of friends. However this year, having conflicting schedule with my friends, it was only me and Mikako. Also, every year, we started off by eating the various foods from various countries in the International Bazaar, but this year, we decided to start off the festival with an area called "Boast of My Village" which features foods from the different towns and villages from different Prefectures of Japan. Unfortunately, we went to Azabu Juban a little too early so we settled for a burger at Wendy's for brunch.
Before the start of the festival, I took some pics of the various food stalls at the International Bazaar preparing the featured cuisine.

Now on to our gourmet tour. We started off with some salted char.
Next, we feasted on miso kiritanpo, a specialty of Akita Prefecture.
Next we shared a skewer of scallops
However, we did not eat the takoyaki at the festival but ordered some to take home.
Tokushima Burger which includes kuroge awagyu.

Yes, we had burgers before the festival started so I ordered this to-go as well.
This looked great but we didn't order any - pasta paella.
Then it was time for a little freshness - strawberries and mangoes.
After our refreshing dessert-like food, we headed over to the International Bazaar. This year we only ate two items from that area. A brik from the Tunisian food stall and Peking Duck from the Chinese food stall.

Brik (deep fried tortilla-like thing filled with tuna, potatoes, and a poached egg, topped with halissa)
Peking Duck /
We ended our gourmet tour of the festival with some berry berry juice from the Swedish food stall.

What's also great about festivals like this is having the opportunity to buy microbrews from other Prefectures. However, I did not add them to this post, as that's a subject for a separate post.
