As I have alread sent e-mail to my friends and family, I just wanted to reiterate what happened in Akihabara today.
Akihabara is a major tourist spot with its Electric Town, maid cafes, and anime shops and the area is closed to traffic on Sundays with its Pedestrian Heaven. Mikako and I have enjoyed walking around Akihabara on Sundays so this worthless and unnecessary crime makes me angry beyond reason. I shall refrain from writing what I really want to say and will just give you the facts.
Today at approximately 12:30pm, a 25yr old male from Shizuoka drove his truck at high speed into Akihabara's Pedestrian Heaven, sending three people sprawling. He then left his truck with a 13cm survival knive and went on a stabbing spree.
Seven people have died and more than a dozen people were injured.
Although he was apprehended, when later questioned by the police, he was said to have become irritated with life and went to Akihabara specifically to kill people. Anybody would do.
As I am still upset over the random and senseless killing of innocent people, I cannot share a light-hearted post in my current state of mind.

Dear Ernie,and Mikako,
At times like this, there are no words to offer, only tears and a feeling of immense sorrow.
My love to you both,
Janet
A short follow-up for you. The three victims that were hit by the truck - two were only 19yrs old. The other a 74 yr old man who was about to buy a computer with his nephew. Four others died from their stab wounds and at least ten people were injured. It's a sad state of affairs.
Akihabara won't be the same fun place it was for us anymore.
The world is not the same fun place it was for us anymore, is it? I just read your follow-up and had to fight to keep from throwing up. I keep thinking that one morning I'm going to wake up and find that some demented person has done much the same thing at Chatuchak and then my heart will truly and irreparably break.
