Day Trip to Nikko (Part 2) / 日光日帰り旅行 （パート２）

What Toshogu is most famous for is the Shinkyusha (Sacred Stable) and Sanzaru (Three Wise Monkeys), especially the monkeys which spawned the phrase "See No Evil, Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil".

東照宮で世界でも有名になってるのは神厩舎と三猿、特に三猿ですね。ここから生み出した〝見ざる、言わざる、聞かざる”。

I finally got to see it with my own eyes - "See No Evil!  Speak No Evil!  Hear No Evil!"

やっと生で見た ー 〝見ざる！言わざる！聞かざる！” 感動しましたな。


Although the above panel is the most famous, there are other panels that all teaches a lesson or has some meaning to it.

上記のパネルが一番有名ですが、それ以外にいっぱいあります。一つ一つは意味かなんかの教えことを表してる。

I'm going to skip the Japanese translations but will write what the sign says these monkeys were doing.  This panel is said to depict "A mother monkey is looking far into the future of her child, and a child is looking up at her mother".

"He is about to be independent"

 

 

"He is ambitiously looking up."

 

 

"He is frustrated in life and is desperately looking down the cliff while one of his friends is cheering him up."  This would be referring to the monkeys on the left side of the panel.

 

 

"He is love-sick."

 

 

"A newly-wedded couple are going to sail through the rough waves of life together."

 

 

"She is an expectant mother, and return to the first scene."

Day Trip to Nikko (Part 1) / 日光日帰り旅行 （パート１）

Yes, I know I've been procrastinating.  My wife and I went on a day trip with our friends Yukio and Reiko to Nikko sometime in the middle of May.  And now, I'm finally getting around to writing about it.  I still have a bunch of future posts to be written to but all in due time.

はい、結構時間が経ってネタを書いてます。日光日帰り旅行は５月中旬位に行ってきました。今回も旅仲間の幸男と玲子と一緒に行きました。もう４か月前の話になるね。他に書きたいネタまだいっぱいありますが、いずれはちゃんと書きますので、宜しくお願い致します。

7025 Franklin Ave. / ７０２５ フランクリン アベニュー

I ate here again a while ago, right after my interview for my current job.  I also called a friend of mine to join me.  This is one of Tokyo's best gourmet burger shops and is located on a side street in Gotanda.  That address on the wall is actually the name of the shop [7025 Franklin Ave.].  I already knew what I was going to order.  That would be the Franks Burger which is topped with asparagus and swiss cheese.  I also ordered a side of clam chowder.  My friend had the same burger but chose the minestrone as a side dish.

ちょっと前だったが、またここ食べに来ました。実はこの日面接があった日だ。今の会社に繋がりましたが、この日は緊張してたな。その後、友達も読んで、五反田にあるグルメバーガーショップ「７０２５ フランクリン・アベニュー」に行きました。食べたいハンバーガーも決まってとので、迷いなく、フランクスバーガーでした。トッピングがなんとアスパラとスイスチーズ。サイドディシュでクラムチャウダーも注文。友達は同じバーガーでミネストローネスープを選んだ。

Extreme Spice Gourmet Festival 2 / 激辛グルメ祭り ２

Yes, I went again for the second time.  Only this time it wasn't just me and my wife.  We were joined by three other friends on a very hot and humid day!!  We must have been crazy to come out on a day like this but it was the last day of the festival and we wanted to try some of the other dishes that we didn't get a chance to eat last week.

はい、また行きました。今回は妻と二人ではなく、他に友達３人も来ました。こんな暑い日に激辛料理食べるのは頭おかしくなりそうな感じだった。５人で来てるから先週食べられなかったものが食べられる！

This is what I meant to eat last week from the Mexican restaurant [Fonda De La Madrugada], puntas Mexicanas. 

先週メキシコの屋台で本当はこれを食べたかった、牛フィル肉と野菜のチレ煮込み。めっちゃ辛かった、でも美味しいわ！

Very spicy chicken butter masala (and this did come with naan) from the Indian restaurant [Mandala].  Very delicious.

超激辛のチキンバターマサラ（ナン付）。インド料理「マンダラ」から。やみつきになるよ！

Tandoori chicken, also from [Mandala].  I was standing in line to get us some ramen from [Moukou Tanmen Nakamoto] which is why this is partially eaten.

「マンダラ」からタンドリーチキンも食べました。僕は「猛攻タンメン 中本」のラーメンの列に並んでたので、友達が先にいただきました。

「猛攻タンメン 中本」がイベントのために作ったオリジナルメニュー。 辛さは１倍から５倍まで選べる。私たちが食べたのは４倍の辛さ！ また店に行きたくなるよ。

And to mellow things out, some chips with salsa and guacamole.

そろそろお腹いっぱいになりそうな感じで、最後は軽くサルサ＆ワカモレチップスでしめる。

We were going to cool down somewhere but since I told my friends I had never been to a batting center, they decided to take me to one.  I was really bad at this but decided not to post the short video clip of me swinging and hitting nothing.  My wife did better than me.  And then we went bowling.  My average has dropped to 125 (I guess that's not so bad).

　
どっかに涼しいところ行こうとしたら、なぜが近くおバッティンぐセンターへ。僕にとって、初の体験。超へたっぴでした。動画もありましたが、空振りの連続を載せるのもやだし、自分の妻が僕より上手かったよ。駄目だ！バッティングの後はボーリングに行きました！自分のレベルが落ちたが、それでも２ゲームで平均は１２５でした。良いか、悪いか、微妙。

As one of my friends went home for the Obon holiday, he brought back an Osorozan Beer for me.  A stout at that too.

友達がお盆休みに青森に行ったらから恐山ビールのお土産を貰いました。スタウトだ、最高！

Our friends also gave us a Dinosaur Egg!!

あと友達から貰ったものは最近流行りのジャンボ恐竜タマゴ！！

After bowling, we had free coupons for a crane game at a game center and I managed to score Akira senpai from the animated show [Kamiusagi Lope].  Here is Akira senpai with Ekekko-san.

ボーリングのあと、ゲームセンのUFOキャッチャークーポンを貰って、人気ゆるアニメキャラのアキラ先輩をゲット。ちなみに、アニメのタイトルは「紙兎ロペ」。エケッコさんとアキラ先輩のツーショット！

But check this out, our dinosaur hatched a couple of days later.

でもこれ見て、恐竜がタマゴから出たで！

But did we go home after bowling and hitting the game center?  No, we went to an izakaya for dinner where a glass of beer was only 90yen (but only until the end of this month).

ボーリングとゲームセンのあとに帰りましたって？いえ、次は居酒屋で夕飯を食べに。それにしても、９月末まで、ジョッキのビールがなんと９０円でした！！

At my former place of employ I had received a call from the Umegaoka Police Department one day.  It appears that someone had turned in my company name tag that I apparently dropped somewhere.  Since Umegaoka is within walking distance from our apartment, I decided to turn my trip to the station into a neighborhood walk.

ある日、前の職場に梅ヶ丘警察庁から電話がありました。親切の誰かが、僕がなくした会社の名札を届いてくれました。梅ヶ丘はうちから歩いて１５分位なので、散歩の感覚で行ってきました。
