On one of our weekends, my wife and I decided to have lunch at a restaurant called Bikkuri Donkey. However, the closest one from our apartment is in Komae, about an hours walk away. We decided we would walk there, have lunch, then walk back. There wasn't much to look at on our way to the restaurant except for this building where we saw a gorilla on the roof!
ある週末に妻が好きなファミリーレストランのびっくりドンキーを食べに行きたいと言った。うちのアパートから一番近い店が狛江にあった。狛江はうちから歩くと一時間くらいかかります。そして私たちは散歩のため、若林から狛江まで歩いた。行く途中にあんまり面白そうな光景はありませんでした。一つだけ気になることを発見。あるビルの屋根にゴリラが居た。
There were actually two gorillas on the roof of the building. A father and child. The father gorilla was smoking a huge cigar while holding a small car in its left hand.
屋根にゴリラ２頭がいました。親子のゴリラ。お父さんゴリラは葉巻を加えて、左手に小さな車を持っていた。こどもはお父さんの方に乗っていた。
We made it to Bikkuri Donkey without any trouble.
びっくりドンキーに無事に辿り着いた。
My wife had the cheese hamburger steak.
妻はチーズハンバーグを注文。
I ordered the pepper hamburger steak.
僕が注文したのはペッパーハンバーグ。
The hamburger steaks are served with a large plate of rice.
大盛りのライスが付いてます。これが店の普通のサイズです。
The sets also include a salad with the restaurant's original dressing.
セットはサラダ付でびっくりドンキーのオリジナルドレッシングがかけられてる。
And soup is included as well.
スープも付いてます。
Spotted a very small shrine.
凄い小さな神社を発見。
Fortunately the tiger is chained to the post.
よかったことに虎がちゃんと鎖で私たちを襲われることが出来ない。
Oh, there wasn't one tiger, but two!
あっ、虎は一頭ではなく、２頭も居た！
This place looks rather inviting.
ここも結構良さそうな場所。
We came across a nice shrine so had to explore.
素敵な神社を発見したので、もちろん探索しました。
Well, I see a lot of foxes so this must be an Inari Shrine.
狐がいっぱいいるので、稲荷神社に間違いない。
Apparently we entered the shrine grounds from a different spot and not the main path.
私たちはどうやら神社の境内を参道ではなく裏から入ったみたい。
We discovered that the name of the shrine is Kitami Hikawa Shrine.
表に出たら、喜多見氷川神社で知りました。
Then we found ourselves at the entrance to a place called the Jidayubori Park's Old Farm House Garden "Minkaen".
歩き続けたら、次大夫堀公演の民家園を発見。
As Girl's Day or Hina Matsuri as it's called in Japan is fast approaching, we were lucky enough to see some displays of hina dolls.
もうすぐがひな祭りなので、タイミングよく、はな人形が飾ってた。
This is a minka or old farm house.

Pretending to warm myself up at the irori.
囲炉裏の前身体を温めようの真似をしてる。
That looks like a loom in this room.

A short break as we share a mitarashi dango.
一旦休憩して、みたらし団子を食べた。
The small recess or alcove which is a few inches above the floor is called the tokonoma in Japanese. The space is used to display flowers, pictures, or ornaments.

This is called a koedame, it is an area for compost.

This is called a ryutosui which was a fire extinguisher used from the Edo period to the Meiji era.

この建物は鍛冶屋（かじや）です。
As it was a Sunday, volunteers were demonstrating how the blacksmith shop was used.

This was a fun and educational bit of our walk back home.
帰りの途中の寄り道で勉強になりました。

The rest of our walk was uneventful and we made it back home without any problems. So ended our walking adventure today.
あとは家に無事に辿り着いた。これで今日の散歩の冒険が終了しました。
